New details keep coming out from the recent data leak involving Rockstar Games. Among the information published by the hacking group are GTA Online financial figures, including statistics related to purchases of in-game currency, Shark Cards.
According to the leaked data, one Xbox player made a purchase worth more than $1 million dollar in a single transaction. The exact amount was $1,030,926, making it the largest recorded Shark Card purchase.

While this may sound shocking to some, but these kind of large purchases in GTA are more common than many would expect. The leak also mentions other huge payments; one transaction dated back to 2017 totaled $984,000, while another reached $953,000. In addition, the list includes dozens of purchases exceeding $500,000. The $1 million purchase was reportedly logged in 2020.
The data leak claims that over ten years, Shark Cards generated $5 billion in revenue. To put things in perspective, GTA 5’s entire development budget is estimated to be $235 million dollars, it made $1B on its first day, and in 10 years generated $5B from Shark Cards alone.
The sheer scale of Rockstar’s GTA franchise is unmatched.
Another key detail is that most of the largest purchases happened on Christmas Day. The biggest spending days were reportedly clustered around Christmas. That suggests holiday promotions, discounted Shark Cards, gift cards, or seasonal engagement spikes may have played a role.
This further highlights how GTA Online’s in-game economy remains one of the key profit drivers for Rockstar Games, even years after the release of Grand Theft Auto V.
GTA Online is $1 Million/Day Business for Rockstar
Another major claim from the leak is that GTA Online was still generating over $1 million per day recently. One report says average weekly revenue from Sept. 2025 to Apr. 2026 was around $9.59 million, with Shark Cards making up the majority and GTA+ subscriptions contributing the rest.
Reportedly, 4% of players were spending money directly, meaning a small portion of player the base is driving a large share of revenue for GTA Online. If that is indeed the case, that would mirror patterns seen in other live-service games.
GTA Online, even in 2026, remains a gigantic money maker for Rockstar Games. No wonder they are in no hurry to release GTA 6.
