Resident Evil 0 Remake Leak Suggests Two-Player Co-Op Is Coming

The Resident Evil franchise has seen many remakes over the years but according to new datamined leaked information, Resident Evil 0 Remake might be the first to feature a coop mode. Capcom is expected to release remakes of Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0, reportedly in that order.

There is very little known about what these games will be like but a leak from Capcom’s internal network, known as Capcom ID, may have revealed a new feature being developed for this modernized version. Specifically, a feature called “Invite a Friend for Co-op Play” was reportedly discovered for a project codenamed Chambers.

In case you’re not aware, this is a direct reference to Rebecca Chambers, the main protagonist of Resident Evil 0. The popular theory right now is that one player could control Chambers while another will play as Billy Coen. The original game never had a coop mode, but players were able to switch between the two characters.

Resident Evil 0 Remake coop

The “Chambers” codename was first leaked in late 2025 when multiple reports claimed Capcom was actively working on Resident Evil 0 Remake and Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake.

Those earlier leaks positioned Code Veronica for a possible 2027 release and Resident Evil 0 for 2028, with the project already in development for several years and performance-capture work reportedly underway since 2024. Actor Jon McLaren (known for roles in Far Cry 5 and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game) has listed “Project Chamber” on his professional résumé as an upcoming AAA title, further fueling speculation that he is involved, likely as Billy Coen.

To no one’s surprise, Capcom hasn’t commented on any of this so there is no way to confirm the details. If the coop mode is real, this will mark a major evolution for a game whose core design already revolves around two main characters.
