Pragmata is Capcom’s latest new IP and it launched to generally favorable reviews, however, a strong debut is overshadowed by a critical issue that is the cause of frustration for numerous Steam Deck and Linux players.
Pragmata uses Denuvo anti-tamper and it is locking players out of the game on Steam Deck and Linux.
Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM, which has locked legitimate buyers out of the game they paid for while pirates enjoyed a fully cracked version days before release. In case you didn’t know, Pragmata’s game files leaked early and Denuvo anti-piracy protection was bypassed using the novel Hypervisor method. Even though some hackers refused to release a cracked version before actual launch in respect of the paying customer, it seems the game itself doesn’t respect the paying customer; locking players out.
The issue stems from Denuvo’s strict “5 different PC within a day” machine activation limit. On Windows setups that remain stable, most users report few problems.
On Linux and Steam Deck, the DRM treats every Proton version switch, launch option change, or graphics tweak (such as enabling DLSS or ray tracing) as a launch on an entirely new machine.
As soon as the daily limit hits, players start seeing the following error:
Currently your game purchase cannot be re-validated successfully, please wait 24 hours and try again.
Pragmata has an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam right now but if you dive into the reviews and discussions, many Linux and Steam Deck users are crashing out; multiple not recommended posts urging players to stay away from Pragmata until the issue is resolved.

Unfortunately, this is not a an uncommon error. There are multiple past instances where Linus and Steam Deck users suffered; the most recent example being DOOM: The Dark Ages.
Can You Do Something to Solve This?
Well, the best solution is to stick to the same proton version unless you want to wait 24 hours. Stick to a single Proton version (Valve’s Proton Experimental or GE-Proton recommended for performance) and avoid changing launch options, environment variables, or graphics settings after the first successful launch.
If you’re locked out, you have to wait for 24 hours. In some cases, creating and restoring backups through Steam will bypass the issue.
Capcom has a track record of removing Denuvo from its titles months after launch so you never know, Pragmata Denuvo might end up on the chopping block.
