If you’re just starting out in Windrose, you’ll very early find out that one of the most important resources in the game is Rough Hide. You need Rough Hide, especially early on, but they are a rare resource if you’re looking to find it in bulk even though they are common in most areas. Rough Hide is used to craft a range of items so getting them early really helps progression.
Early in the game, boars on the starting island (Coastal Jungle) are the primary source of Rough Hide; each Sow yields 1 hide and each Boar yields 1–2 hides. As you progress, you can travel to other islands where “Charging” and “Savage” boars appear (higher risk, but similar or higher hide yields).
In this guide, we will go through everything you need to know on how to find and farm Rough Hide in Windrose.
Where to Find and Farm Rough Hide in Windrose

To farm Rough Hide, I recommend going to the marked boar spawn locations I’ve shown in the image above. At each location, set up a fast travel so you can jump back and forth. In early areas, you can get 10-20 Rough Hide per hour while in later areas where risk is high, you can farm 30-50 Rough Hide in Windrose.

Apart from monster drops, no plants or mining nodes produce hides. There is an Animal Products Merchant (e.g. a Tortuga trader) who buys Rough Hide in exchange for Piastres (10 hides → 1 Piastre, 20 hides → 2 Piastres).
However, currently there is no NPC merchant known to sell Rough Hide in Windrose and no standard quest or event yields it reliably. So, it is going to be a grind to farm a large amount of Rough Hide. Treasure Chests and or random world event don’t usually drop Rough Hide but there is a chance so never miss one.
In your inventory Rough Hide stacks up to 30 per slot and is store like any crafting materials in the game. Rough Hide is used in several crafting recipes in Windrose. For example, the Survivor Boots require 2x Rough Hide, and 2x Coarse Fabric. Moreover, Tracker’s Hat also needs 2x Rough Hide and 2x Fabric.
If you can manage to max out one Inventory slot with Rough Hide, it should be enough to craft most of early game items as they usually require 1-2 Rough Hide per crafting recipe.
