Windows 11 users report that they cannot access the Windows Security app for some reason. The issue is faced most commonly when changing Windows Defender settings. Trying to open the Windows Security App apparently does nothing. This is said to happen after pending Windows Updates are installed. The following might be the reasons that cause this issue:

  • Your Windows Store Certificate might be corrupted.
  • Windows Security Component is corrupted.
  • Third-party Antivirus might be blocking users from using Windows Security.
  • Windows Security files might be corrupted.
  • Data might be incorrectly cached.
  • Windows security might be disabled outright.

Fix# 1 – Reset Windows Store Certification

The most common reason for Windows Security not opening is a corrupted core dependence such as Windows Store. Reinstalling Microsoft.SecHealthUI components should take care of the issue and fix it. For this, the following steps should be followed:

  • Press Win+R.
  • Type Powershell into the text box and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run it as administrator.
  • Type the following command when you reach the Powershell Window:
  • Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

  • Restart your PC and see if the problem resolves itself.

Fix# 2 – Disable Third-Party Antivirus

Third-party anti-viruses apparently interfere with the Windows 11 Security Kernel, effectively shutting down your access to the Windows defender.

To prevent this, it is better to disable or uninstall your 3rd party antivirus software, because Windows Security is good enough to keep your computer safe at all times and anything else is overkill at best and bloatware at worst.

Fix# 3 – Reset Windows Security App

Windows security likes to store cached data to accommodate you with certain features quickly while you are out and about using your computer. Sometimes this cache can become corrupt, which renders Windows Security completely useless. The following are the steps you should follow to reset the cache of your Windows Security App:

  • Press Windows+R to open up the Run dialogue box.
  • Type in ms-settings in the Run Window and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run it as administrator
  • The Settings menu will pop up; you can access the apps menu on the left panel.
  • Next, navigate to Installed apps on the right.
  • Find Windows Security and click on the three dots on the right of the Icon.
  • Hit the reset button once in the advanced settings.
  • Restart your computer when you’re done with the reset.

Fix# 4 – Repair or Clean install

If the aforementioned solutions didn’t work for you, your best bet is a clean install or a repair. Unfortunately, this must be done if you have exhausted all other options to fix this issue.

We do, however, recommend that you shoot for a repair instead of a clean install if you can choose between the two. Repair will only reinstall only your system, while your personal files like games, movies, and documents will stay intact.

Clean Install If kernel processes are hindered due to this issue, a clean install would be the better option for you. This comes with the downside of you losing all your personal data, but it is a surefire method to eliminate this issue from your computer if all else seems well.
