Many users have reported a Call of Duty Warzone 2 error titled “DEV ERROR 657“. While there can be many reasons for these issues, a corrupted game file is the most common. Below are some tried and tested fixes we’ve gathered after research into the matter. Try them out one by one and see which one resolves the issue.

Fix 1: Update the Game

Usually, the developers update the game when several bugs stack up. So, there is a good chance an update is already available for Warzone 2 that counters Error 657.

The game, during launch, automatically updates itself. However, this does not happen when the game is running. So, follow the instructions below to update the game manually.

For Steam users, start by launching the Steam client and heading to the Library section. There, you’ll find the game icon. So, right-click on it, and update it. After a few minutes, when it completes, go ahead and fire up the game to see if it’s working.

For Battle.net users, start by opening the Battle.net client and clicking on Call of Duty Warzone 2. There, you’ll find a gear icon next to a play button. So, click on the icon, and select the Check for Updates option from the list of options. This will commence any pending updates, after which you can run the game to see if the error 657 shows up.

Fix 2: Repair Game Files

As mentioned earlier, a damaged or corrupted game file is probably the culprit behind error 657. If the above fix hasn’t worked out for you, this definitely will. All you need to do is use the file repair tool that Steam or Battle.net clients already provide for this issue.

Tip: If you’re having driver issues, we recommend DriverFix to scan and update all your outdated drivers in just one click. DriverFix solves your issues faster; it is easy to use and lets you know whenever a driver update is available. Download updates from popular brands, 100% malware and virus free.

If you are a Steam user, head back to the Steam client and locate your game. After that, right-click on it and go to its properties. There, you’ll find a Local Files section where an option for ‘Verify integrity of game files’ can be seen. Click on this option and wait for the repair to complete.

If you are a Battle.net user, launch the Battle.net client and click on the gear icon next to the Warzone 2 play button. This will open up a list of options, from which you’ll need to choose ‘Scan and repair’. After that, wait for the process to complete and launch the game afterward to see if the Warzone 2 Dev error 657 is fixed.

Fix 3: Install Pending Windows Updates

Sometimes, the error is not with the game but the system it runs on. The problem usually occurs in an incompatibility between the game and Windows versions. If the two aren’t on the same page, problems like Dev Error 657 in Call Of Duty Warzone 2 can happen often. So, follow the steps below to install any pending windows updates.

Start by heading to the Windows Settings and locating the Windows Update section. There, you’ll find a ‘Check for updates’ option. Click on it and wait for any updated installation. Once the procedure completes, restart your PC, launch Warzone 2, and Dev Error 657 will be fixed.
