How To Find Fish In Valheim

Before you can go and start catching fish, you will need to pay a visit to Haldor, one of the traders. From him, you need to buy a fishing rod. He is going to be at a random location in the world. He pops up in the Black Forest biome so be sure to look around for him if you have not found him already.

Once you do find him a small bag of money will mark his location on the map. This will allow you to find him easily the next time you need his help. The fishing rod is going to set you back 350 gold coins. So be sure to have that amount on you when you go out to buy the fishing rod.

Other than the rod, you will also need bait for fishing. This is going to cost you 50 coins. You will need to select bait from your inventory just like you need to select the arrows for the bow.

Once you have the fishing rod, you can use it as a ranged weapon. Press the right mouse button to aim and then press the left mouse button to fire your round, so to speak. You can see fish swimming around in the Meadows and Black Forest biomes.

It is worth mentioning that fish do not show up in water over time. They spawn in random locations. So if you do not see fish in the body of water close to you then it is best to move to another location rather than waiting.

If you cannot find any fish then you can try your luck and find some shallow water rather than going to water bodies that are too deep.
