Team Fortress 2 Crash Fix, Missing Textures, Crash On Launch, Won’t Launch

Team Fortress 2 has been out for a while now but that does not mean that it is perfect as plenty of players still play the game and they encounter issues like the crash at launch, missing textures and more. Here we are going to go over error fixes that you can use for a better experience when playing Team Fortress 2.

Team Fortress 2 Crash, Out of Memory And Fixes

The following are some of the common errors that players face while playing Team Fortress 2 and how you can deal with them

Missing Textures On Older Graphics Cards Fix

If you have a graphics error when playing TF2 and you have an older graphics card then what you need to do is Disable Trilinear Optimization via the Riva Tuner. This should solve the problem.

Crash At Launch Fix

If the game crashes when you try to launch it then this error can be fixed by updating your graphics drivers. This error is most often due to old graphics drivers.

Another reason for the game not launching or game crashing at launch is the anti-virus or Windows Defender. You can fix this by either disabling the anti-virus software or making an exception for the game’s folder.

If this doesn’t resolve the problem then the issue might be that the game doesn’t have administrative rights. Right-click on the game’s exe > properties > Compatibility Tab > check “Run this program as an administrator”.

Press apply and then start the game and the issue will be resolved.

Game Not Launching Fix

If the game does not launch then there is a fix for that as well. Follow the steps below to get the game running:

  • Right-click on TF2 game
  • Go to the properties
  • Click on launch option
  • Type autoconfig and enter

Once you have followed these steps, the game should work fine.

Out Of Memory Error Fix

A common way of fixing this error is to turn down the graphics settings of the game. There are plenty of options to tweak. A safe way to do it is to turn the graphics preset down a notch and see if the game runs any better.

Not Running On Windows 10 Fix

If your game is not running on Windows 10 then there are a few things you can do to fix the issue. Firstly, try following the steps below:

  1. Open your Steam Client
  2. Go to Library
  3. Right-click on Team Fortress 2 and go to Properties
  4. Under General, open Set Launch Options
  5. Enter “-windowed -noborder” command and press Enter or click OK
  6. Try to open Team Fortress 2 again and see if there are any issues

If you tried this and it did not do the trick then you can try following the steps below:

  1. Check your screen resolution, if you don’t know it, here’s how to find out:
    • Right-click on Desktop and go to Display Settings
    • Go to Advanced Display Settings and see your resolution under Resolution
  2. Open your Steam Client and go to Library
  3. Right-click on Team Fortress 2, go to Properties and to Set Launch Options, again
  4. Enter the following:

windowed -noborder -w [SCR-H] -h [SCR-W]

Note that ([SCR-H] and [SCR-W] are the height and width of your screen. If your screen resolution is 1400 x 900: windowed -noborder -w 1400 -h 900).

Once you have done this, click on and try running the game once again.

That is all for our Team Fortress 2 fixes guide for errors like the game crash at launch, out of memory and more.
