Skill Books are called magazines in Starfield, and picking them up gives you a permanent skill bonus. You don’t even need to carry around these books, and you can even sell them if you want. There are a variety of skill bonuses, ranging from reduced fall damage to increased carrying capacity. So it is a good idea to find these magazines while exploring through the galaxy.
