Paying Off Bounties in Starfield
There is a Bounty System in Starfield that is used to penalise player who commit illegal acts. These include but are not limited to theft, assault, murder, etc. These bounties can range from fines to even imprisonment, depending on the severity of the crime. It is also important to note that each faction in Starfield has a different way to settle bounties. Here are all the details:
United Colonies
To clear bounties from the United Colonies, you will need to head to New Atlantis and pay the fine at one of the security checkpoint. Alternatively, you can also find Sergeant Yumi to do so.
Freestar Collective
To resolve bounties from the Freestar Collective, you will need to head over to the Akila City. Once there, talk to the security guard to clear it.
Independent Systems
Lastly, in order to resolve any bounties from an independent system, you simply need to install a Self-Service Bounty Clearance at your Outpost. This requires you to have:
- 4x Aluminum
- 2x Zero Wire
- 2x Beryllium
Aside from clearing bounties from independent systems, this booth also offers a simpler way to pay off bounties from different factions.
Self-Service Bounty Terminals
You will come across various Self-Service Bounty Terminals at different locations throughout cities. This is where you will be able to view your remaining bounties and pay them off.
It is important to note that you cannot clear bounties in the same system where you committed the crime. For example, to clear Freestar Collective bounties, you will need to use a terminal in the United Colonies.
Should I Clear Bounties?
While it comes down to how you want to play the game, I recommend paying off your bounties on the first playthrough. This will allow you to avoid negative consequences such as increased scrutiny, arrests, and even imprisonment. When you do not have to worry about these things, you should be able to explore the galaxy at your own pace without any trouble looming over you.
