There are plenty of items and resources that you can get in Starfield, and Contraband is unique since it is not legal. If you are caught carrying Contraband on yourself or your ship, then you will be fined and jailed. This makes Contraband goods very expensive and a great way to make money. Contraband is considered illegal, no matter if you steal it or gain it as a reward. Contraband goods are marked with a yellow icon. Items can have red markets as well. This means that they are legal, but you have stolen them. So, while the item itself is legal, the act of stealing it is illegal. Digipacks, for example, are legal, but Harvested Organs are considered Contraband in illegal.
How To Hide And Sell Contraband In Starfield
If you want to store Contraband on your ship without getting caught, then you need a ship that has a Shielded Cargo Hold. This decreases the chances of you getting caught with Contraband onboard, but there is no guarantee. You can buy the Shielded Cargo Hold or buy a ship that already has one.
How To Sell Contraband In Starfield Without Ship Scan
Contraband can be sold to Trade Authority vendors. You will need to head to a Trade Authority building since the Trade Authority terminals do not buy contraband. Vendors do have limited credits, so their buying power is limited.
You can sell Contraband without having your ship scanned at The Den space station in the Wolf Star system. This location has a Trade Authority vendor, and your ship will not be scanned when you arrive. Making it an ideal place to sell illegal goods that you might be carrying.
Since the vendor has a limited amount of credits, you might not be able to sell all your Contraband here, but something is still better than nothing, and it is rather safe.
