Starfield Direct gave us a lot of information regarding the upcoming game, and we got to learn about the different versions of the game that will be available at launch. The most expensive edition, the Starfield Constellation Edition, comes with a steelbook but no disk.
No Game Disk In Starfield Constellation Edition
Starfield Constellation Edition is the most expensive edition of the game and comes with plenty of goodies, such as the Chronomark watch. All the included items are mentioned below:
- Base game (digital download)
- Steelbook display case
- Chronomark watch
- Watch case
- Constellation patch
- 5 days early access
- First story expansion called Shattered Space
- Constellation skin
- Digital artbook
- Digital soundtrack
The marketing material clearly mentions that the Constellation Edition does come with a steelbook, but the game will be provided digitally via game code. This is a bummer seeing how collectors often want to or like to have disks with their steelbooks. I, for one, actually collect steelbooks and I like to have the disk included when I make the purchase. I am sure that there are plenty of other collectors out there that feel the same way.
It seems that more developers are pushing digital games, and Bethesda is joining the new trend. Previously it was confirmed that Allan Wake 2 would only be available digitally, and it seems that Microsoft could be taking the same route seeing how the premium edition is digital only as well.
The base game will be available on Game Pass, so if you are subscribed to the service, then you will be able to play it at launch, and you will also get the Game Pass bonuses; the Old Mars Skin Pack, which includes the Deep Mining Helmet and Pack along with the Laser Cutter. You still get these bonuses for pre-ordering the game if you do not want to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass.
Let us know what you think about Starfield Constellation Edition not coming with a disk and whether or not you are interested in checking out the game when it comes out later this year.
