One of the biggest additions in Spelunky 2 is the ability to ride mounts. Similar to Yoshi, you can use these mounts to do a number of things or even as plain meat-shields (don’t do that though!). In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how to tame creatures to use as mounts in Spelunky 2.
Spelunky 2 Mounts Tips
Mounts in Spelunky 2 has a number of advantages. Some of these include:
- You can leave a creature to use things and get back to it whenever you want
- The ability to reach greater heights to access otherwise inaccessible areas
- Attack when you need to but the damage leaves much to be desired
- Glide to cross large gaps without the need to invest in a Cape
- Quickly traverse through any level
How to Tame Creatures to Use as Mounts
However, before you can ride different mounts, you’ll need to tame them. To tame a creature, simply jump on it and don’t let the jump button go.
The creature will get agitated for a while and run around in random directions before calming down. If you see small hearts on top of a creature, it means it has successfully been tamed. One small tip to keep in mind is to avoid trying to tame a creature when there are environmental hazards nearby. An uncontrolled creature can easily kill you by running into an environment hazard e.g. spikes.
It’s better to attempt taming in a closed room with no enemies nearby. If you’re unable to find a suitable place, you can always stun a turkey with your whip and carry it to a safe place before taming it. But once successfully tamed, you’ll be able to carry your mount anywhere you like. Aside from things mentioned earlier, you can also bring tamed creatures (turkeys) to Yang in order to gain access to a variety of rewards.
