The Watcher is the new class in Slay The Spire. It has been introduced in the new update along with a couple of new features. In this Slay The Spire guide we are going to go over the Watcher class and tell you what you can do with it.
The Watcher Class In Slay The Spire
The Watcher has unique cards and relics and playing with this character adds a whole new experience to Slay The Spire. The Watcher uses seeing staff and divine stances. A number of new potions have also been added to the game.
The Watcher can take out enemies in a single turn but in order to do that, you need to set up the game properly. This means that in the start of the round you need minimal preparation and defense.
The Watcher Stances
The following are the different stances that The Watcher can use in Slay The Spire:
This stance might seem like it generates energy but that is not the case. It takes one energy to get into this stance and one energy to get out of it. You get two energy for this stance so the net is zero. Entering the stance and exiting it does not have to happen in the same turn so you can use it to transfer energy from one turn to another. This stance should be used for a killer combo.
With this stance, you will be able to take out enemies pretty quickly in the first few acts but things change after that. You need to be very careful with this stance as it does offer double damage but the character does not have reliable burst cards to make use of the extra damage. Wrath is not bad, per se but you are going to need some pretty rare relics and luck in order to pull this stance off after act 3.
This is the stance that you are going to use rather than Wrath in ideal conditions. With this, you get triple damage and you also get three free energy. Mix things up with Calm and you can get up to 5 energy.
Retain will help you defend until you are ready to attack with up to 3x or 4.5x damage. Retain has Establishment which happens to be one of the most broken cards that this class has. Energy generation is nice which will come in handy. You also have protect which is another plus point.
This is a mechanic that players are going to appreciate. It will negate the effects of the cards that you need to cleanse. Scry gets better as Ascension gets higher. Keep in mind that this is a slow class to play and scrying makes things even slower.
How To Build Defense
You will need to play defensively and that means having some cards that are going to help you do that. The following are some of the common cards that we recommend for this:
- Third Eye
- Empty Body
- Just Lucky
The following are some of the uncommon cards that you can use:
- Deceive Reality
- Wave of the Hand
The following are the rare cards that we recommend you use:

Now that your defenses are up you are going to need some kill combinations to take out enemies. The following are the combinations that we recommend you use:
