Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has made its way to PCs and developer Nixxes has done an incredible job porting the game. Unfortunately, no matter how optimized the game is, there are bound to be some players experiencing errors and issues, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is no exception. PC players report that they are unable to play the game as they experience the “Not enough video memory” error at launch. In this Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart guide, I will list fixes that will help players resolve the “Not enough video memory” error.

Not Enough Video Memory Error Fixes That’ll Help

There is more than one reason why you are experiencing the “Not enough video memory” crash like not actually having enough VRAM, Windows page file settings, GPU driver, and more. The following are the fixes that will help players resolve the error when launching Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Change Windows Page File Settings

The Not enough video memory” error when launching Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart can occur due to page file settings, specifically if you have manually set the virtual memory size. Set it to auto and the error will be fixed. Open Windows Settings > About > Advanced system settings > click “Settings” under Advanced tab > click “Change” under Virtual Memory > check “Automatically manage paging file size” and press OK. Restart your PC, launch Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and the “Not Enough Video Memory” error is now fixed.

Open Windows Settings and click the highlighted option.
Click on Advanced System settings,
Click the highlighted option.
Click the highlighted option.
Check “Automatically manage paging file” and apply.

Reduce Texture Quality

If you are using the max settings for Texture Quality, lower it as the highest option for this setting requires more than 8GB VRAM. If you have a GPU with 8GB or less VRAM, lower the texture quality settings, and the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart “Not Enough Video Memory” crash will be fixed.

Reinstall/Update GPU Driver

Another reason for the Not Enough Video Memory error is your GPU driver. The driver version you have installed is probably not compatible with the game or isn’t giving it correct information about the VRAM and is causing the error. Update or install another driver version for your GPU and the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart not enough memory error will be fixed. Ensure you do a clean installation so that settings from the previous driver install won’t interfere with the new one.

Download the driver and launch the setup.
Agree to terms of and conditions.
Select custom and click next.
Check ‘Perform a clean installation’ and click next to install.

Force Dedicated GPU

For those PC users with systems that have both dedicated and integrated GPU, this out-of-video memory error could be a simple bug. Often systems, especially Laptops, with both GPU options switch between the dedicated and iGPU depending on the load. In the case of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the system isn’t switching to the dedicated GPU and causing the Not Enough Video memory error. PC users need to force the game to use the dedicated GPU and the error will be fixed.

For Nvidia GPU, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game > select “High-performance Nvidia processor” under the preferred graphics option. Apply the changes.

AMD GPU users must open Radeon Settings > Preferences > Additional Settings > Power > Switchable Graphics Application Settings. Select the game and select the “High-Performance profile” to the game under Graphics Settings.

Delete DirectX Shader Cache

Deleting the DirectX shader cache is another fixed the Not Enough Video memory error. Type disk cleanup in Windows search > select C drive and press Ok > select DirectX Shader Cache > press OK, and Windows will delete the DirectX Shader cache. Launch Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and the error is now fixed.

Open disk cleanup app.
Select “DirectX Shader Cache” and click OK.
