Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has launched for PC and takes almost full advantage of the PC hardware with Direct Storage support and more. PC video games often face errors and issues and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is no different as PC players report the game is crashing randomly while playing with error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. In this Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart guide, I will list fixes that will help players resolve the error.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart Error 0x887a0005 Fixes You Can Try
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED is a common error related to the GPU and in the case of the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, you might have overclocked your GPU, running the game with the highest texture quality, and more. The following are the fixes that will help players with how to fix the error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.
Reduce Texture Quality
One of the main factors behind the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error is the VRAM. Players require a GPU with at least 12GB VRAM to be able to run the game with the highest texture quality. If you have a GPU with 8GB VRAM and are using the highest texture quality, lower this setting, and the 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED crash will be fixed.
Disable Nvidia Reflex
PC players report that disabling the Nvidia Reflex option in the graphics menu fixes the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart crash with error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Reflex is Nvidia’s proprietary tech that reduces input latency. However, this feature is known to cause crashes in some games and it is the reason why Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is crashing. Disable Nvidia Reflex and the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error will be fixed.
Limit Max FPS
Playing a high or unlocked FPS is one of the advantages of PC gaming, but not every game responds well when played at a high FPS. It can put a lot of load on the GPU and CPU, and cause crashes and errors like error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. This is also the case with Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Reduce the maximum FPS at which you play Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and the error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED will be fixed. Players can do that through the in-game menu of through Nvidia Control Panel.
Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart > scroll down and enable Maximum Frame Rate > set a value for it and apply the changes. Launch the game and it won’t crash with error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.
Note: Unless you are using a Freesync or Gsync display, your Max Frame Limit should be 1/2, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of your monitor’s refresh rate. Otherwise, the game will feel jittery.
Disable GPU Overclock
GPU overclock can provide better performance but it can also result in unpredictable behavior like the game crashing with the 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error and it seems to be the case with Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. If you have overclocked your GPU, revert it back to its default clocks.
In case your GPU is factory overclocked, enable Debug mode which forces the GPU to use Nvidia’s recommended clock speeds. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug mode. Launch Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and the 0x887a0005 error is now fixed.
Disable Ray Tracing
Ray Tracing is a GPU and CPU-intensive feature that can result in errors like 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart features ray-traced effects that might be causing it. Disable Ray Tracing and the error will be fixed. However, if you are unable to do it in-game on account of the game crashing at startup, you can do it through GeForce Experience.
Open Nvidia GeForce Experience > select Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart > click on the “Custom Settings icon” right next to Optimize button. Drag The slider all the way to performance > click apply > click on optimize. Launch Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and it won’t crash with 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error.
Update GPU Driver
If you haven’t updated your GPU driver in a while, it is causing the 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error with Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Either the driver isn’t compatible with the game or its files have gone corrupt. Update/reinstall your GPU driver and ensure do a clean installation. Restart your PC, launch Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, and the error 0x887a0005 is now fixed.
