Errors and crashes are common among PC games and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart isn’t immune to these issues no matter how well-optimized it is. PC players report that the game is crashing on the desktop while playing. In this Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart guide, I will list fixes that will help players resolve the crashes.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Crash Fixes You Can Try
There are multiple reasons why the game is crashing like specific graphics settings like DLSS or Ray tracing, in-game overlays, third-party tools and software, and more. If your crashes are related to a specific error, also check our Error 0x887a0005: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and Not Enough Video Memory fix for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The following are the fixes that will help players resolve the crashes.
Disable DLSS And Ray Tracing
Players report that enabling DLSS or Ray Tracing or both causes Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to crash. Disable them one by one to check if the crashes fix and if not, disable both graphics features and the game will stop crashing. However, it is odd that DLSS is supposed to improve performance not break the game. May in a future patch it’ll be fixed.
If you are unable to disable these graphics settings due to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart crashing at startup, open GeForce Experience > select Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart > click on the “Custom Settings icon” right next to Optimize button.
Drag The slider all the way to performance > click apply > click on optimize. Doing this won’t necessarily disable DLSS but you’ll be able to launch the game and disable the graphics features through the in-game menu.
Disable Nvidia Reflex
Nvidia Reflex is a Nvidia GPU-specific feature that reduces input latency. PC players report that enabling Nvidia Reflex causes Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to crash. Disable Reflex and the game will stop crashing.
Move The Game To An SSD
Some PC players report that playing the game while installing it on an HDD caused the game to crash a lot and moving the install to an NVMe M.2 SSD fixed the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart crash. Considering the game is designed to take full advantage of an SSD, playing it on an HDD will cause issues. So move the game to an SSD and it won’t crash anymore.
Disable In-game Overlays
In-game overlays are useful to access certain features that would be otherwise inaccessible in-game. But these in-game overlays can interfere with the game like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and cause it to crash. Disable in-game overlays like Steam in-game overlay, Discord in-game overlay, or GeForce Experience overlay, and the issue will be fixed.
To disable Steam in-game overlay, open Steam > settings > In-game > uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game.”
Open GeForce experience > click on the Gear icon next to your username > General > turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” options.
Disable Third-Party Software
One of the advantages of a PC is having the ability to use different tools or software for features that are otherwise not available. However, using third-party tools or software like Discord, MSI Afterburner, RGB software, driver/software for a peripheral like HOTAS, and more. Disable any third-party tool you use that runs in the background and the game will stop crashing.
