The concept of collecting fossils to make them into your Pokemons has been in the Pokemon franchise for a long time. Pokemon Sword and Shield has a similar concept but has some slight changes. Fossils need to be combined to make a Pokemon that will be added to your Pokedex. This guide will include all the details on fossils in Pokemon Sword and Shield and where to find them.

Pokemon Sword and Shield – Fossils

There are a lot of fossils and Pokemon Sword and Shield scattered thought the map. In this game, you will have to collect various types of fossils and then mix them together for a Pokemon to emerge. Mixing various fossils for different Pokemons isn’t a big deal, the main issue lies ahead. Fine, the fossils are not as easy as they sound. As you need various fossils you will need to explore a lot and not only in one area.

Where to find them?

Keep in mind that some fossils can be located in Sword while some can be located in Shield. So you will have to waste a lot of time by collecting fossils in Sword then having any one of your Pokemon holds onto it and trade to the other game. When the process ends you will obtain a good Pokemon so it’s worth it. There are four types of fossils in the game. Their names and locations are stated below:

Fossilized Drake – To find it you will have to go to the Pokemon Nursery which is located near Bridge Field in Shield. There you will find diggers who will dig the ground for a price and any bring found is yours. They take 500 Watts and dug for you. Anything that comes out is yours. This is the only way to obtain the fossil. You might have to spend a lot and it is entirely on your luck.

Fossilized Fish – You can acquire it the same way you acquired Fossilized Drake.

Fossilized Dino – Go to the Diglett Monument in Route 6 in Sword. Look around for ladders near here. When you find them take the second one down and once down go left. You’ll see another ladder in the distance climb it and go left. Straight ahead you can see a boulder go around it to find the fossil.

Fossilized Bird – To find this fossil you will have to go to the Pokemon Centre in the town of Stow-on-Side in Sword. Outside the center, you will find a man dressed in a greyish shirt and green pants. Talk to him and he will give you two Fossilized Bird.

Combining the Fossils

All of these fossils are not found in one game. The fossils exclusive to Sword are Fossilized Dino and Fossilized Bird. So the fossils exclusive to Shield are Fossilized Drake and Fossilized Fish.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Fossils

After getting these fossils you will have to approach Professor Cara Loss who is located near where you found the Fossilized Dino. Give her the fossils and she will combine them for you. The fossils combinations create a new Pokemon. The combinations are :

  • By combining Fossilized Drake and Fossilized Fish you get Dracovish.
  • Combine Fossilized Dino and Fossilized Bird to get Arctozolt.
  • By combining Fossilized Dino and Fossilized Drake you get Dracozolt.
  • Combine Fossilized Bird and Fossilized Fish to get Arctovish.
