Pokemon Sword And Shield Beginners Guide: How To Start Off Like A Pro

Pokemon Sword and Shield are out now and while the basic game is similar to the previous ones, these new versions do have a twist to offer. In this Pokemon Sword and Shield beginners guide, we are going to go over some tips and tricks that will make the game much easier for you.

Pokemon Sword And Shield Tips And Tricks

The following are some useful tips and tricks that will help you get started in Pokemon Sword and Shield:

Getting Mew At The Start Of The Game

You can get Mew at the start of Pokemon Sword and Shield. If you have the Pokeball Plus accessory then you can connect the device to your Switch and get Mew from the Mystery Gift option in the game. Note that if you have done so in Pokemon Lets Go then you will not be able to do the same in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Gigantamax Pikachu And Evee

You can get either of the two Pokemon if you have saved data for Lets Go Pikachu or Evee on your console.  You need to get to the wild area station in your game. This can take roughly 2 hours. You can get the special Pikachu if you have Lets Go Pikachu and the special Evee if you have Lets Go Evee. Note that these two special Pokemon will not be able to evolve.

Gigantamax Meowth

The special Meowth can be obtained by anyone in the Mystery Gift option but you will need to do this before early January 2020.

Exclusive Pokemon

There are two different versions of Pokemon games and every game has some exclusive Pokemon which you cannot get in the other version of the game. If you are interested in learning more about that then you can check out our detailed article on the differences between Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

Take Advantage Of Pre-order Bonuses

You get various items for pre-ordering the game and you should take advantage of those. If you buy directly from the Nintendo online store then you will get a couple of Quick Balls. These are more effective than Great Balls and will help you catch plenty of Pokemon early on in the game.  Later on, you will be able to buy them so be sure to use them in the early parts of the game.

Experience Candies

These candies can be used to give your Pokemon experience and level them up. These can be helpful if your Pokemon is underleveled or if you just want to try out a new Pokemon.

Daycare

The daycare can be used to share egg moves between two Pokemon. You can put two same Pokemon in the daycare and the one with the egg moves will share it with the one that does not have them.

Call Backup

There are parts of the game such as the raids that get very difficult on your own. If you are stuck in such activities you can call for backup and have your friends help you with difficult raids.

Autosave

Unlike previous games, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have an autosave feature. This is an optional feature that can be turned off if you want.

This marks the end of our Pokemon Sword and Shield beginners guide. If you are interested in learning more about the game then you can check out our guide on which starter Pokemon you should pick. You can also check out our guide on the new abilities in the game.
