How To Breed In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has become a hot topic in the Pokemon community since its launch. Mostly, people praise its gameplay, but now and then, problems appear, and in this guide, we’ll be going over how the breeding process takes place in this game. Breeding in the Pokemon gaming world is a very ancient process that almost all versions have included in one way or the other. However, in the recent Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, things are a bit different, and the procedure to breed is a whole lot easier than before.

The Breeding Process

For breeding to occur, the first thing that you’d require is a male and female pokemon of the same egg group in your team. After that, all that’s left is to set up a picnic. The breeding process takes time, but once you get the opposite-gendered Pokemon, all you’ll need to do is wait. However, while at it, you can make a sandwich or play fetch to increase the Egg Power.

You’ll have to watch the picnic basket for a Pokemon egg. Hopefully, you’ll only have to wait a few minutes, and when you find an egg, you can send it to the boxes (if you want to hatch them) or the academy for a study (if you don’t want to hatch them).

Know your Egg Groups

Before going into the breeding process, it’s good to know the categories in front of you. The Egg groups, in this case, help you determine whether the Pokemon can breed. The pokemon egg group titled “No Eggs” can’t breed. Besides that, the others, such as the Human-like, Monster, Water 1, Water 2, Water 3, Bug, Flying, Mineral, Fairy, Field, Amorphous, Ditto, Grass, and Dragon, can breed.

The Hatching Process

The process for hatching is pretty straightforward, as all you’ll have to do is have the egg in your party and walk away from it. The distance you’d need to walk depends on the type of Pokemon inside. Some might require a small distance, while others require more significant. Either way, this process will take time. However, if you’re in a hurry, we suggest you include a Pokemon aware of either Flame body or Steam Engine. Pokemon with the flame body or steam engine ability, such as the Rolycoly and Fletchinder, can be found in the east or south province.

Why is Breeding Important?

Breeding is an integral part of any Pokemon game; without it, the game is incomplete and senseless. There are several different benefits that you can find from breeding, and the most obvious of them is the transfer of Nature, Abilities, Egg Moves, and Individual Values into the next generation of Pokemon of your choice.

Natures

Natures are easy to pass down as all you’ll need to do is have the breeding pokemon hold onto an Everstone.

Hidden Abilities

Hidden Abilities, on the other hand, are a game of chance, as there is only an 80% success rate of transferring them to the next generation. One thing to note here is that the mother’s chance of transferring a hidden ability is 60%, while the father’s ability only passes on when bred with a Dito.

Egg Moves

To pass an egg move, suppose you have a Makuhita that you’ve upgraded to level 25 with the Belly Drum move, and you want that move to be transferred to the next generation. You’ll need to get an Azumarill and delete one of its moves. After that, you’ll need to head to Delibird Presents and equip a Mirror Herb for 30,000 Pokedollars. Once done with that, make the Azumarill hold onto the Mirror Herb and go to a Picnic with both the Pokemons mentioned in your party. This will ultimately result in offspring with the Belly Drum Egg Move.

Individual Values

Transferring the best Individual Values requires you to know whether the Pokemon even has them. For this, you’ll need to complete Victory Road, after which you can view your Pokemon’s Statistics.

The breeding process doesn’t guarantee a hundred percent efficiency when transferring IVs, rather it only passes on 3 out of 12 of the parent’s IVs randomly. This means that the breeding process can either result in a bad or good IV set.

However, there’s a neat trick for getting good IVs: catch a six Star Tera Raid Pokemon or purchase a Destiny Knot for 20,000 Pokedollars.

Breeding is a complicated process for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but hopefully, we’ve simplified it for you in this guide. For more on the game, see How to Get Belly Drum TM and How to Teach Azumarill Belly Drum.
