Planet Zoo GPU Crash, Stuttering And Fixes

Planet Zoo is finally available on PC. Despite being a well-optimized game, Planet Zoo is facing crashes, black screen, 100% CPU usage, GPU crash, and more. The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

100% CPU Usage Fix

Players are reporting that when they play Planet Zoo, the game uses 100% of the CPU. The game generally is CPU heavy and hence the high CPU usage. Even locking the game at 30 FPS won’t reduce the CPU usage by any significant margin.

If you want to try to lock the game at 30 FPS, then open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D setting > Program Settings. Select the game from the list and if it isn’t there then add it. After that, enable “Max FPS Limit” and set the value to “30”. Apply the changes and the game will now be locked at 30 FPS.

Note: Given the game’s high CPU usage, there are chances that the game will drop below 30 FPS. If that happens, it’ll introduce screen tearing.

Game Not Launching, Crash At Startup Fix

Players are reporting that when they try to play Planet Zoo it just crashes at launch or doesn’t launch. Here are a few fixes and workaround that might help you with Planet Zoo crashing at launch.

One reason for the Planet Zoo to not launch or crash at launch could be your anti-virus software or Windows Defender detecting the game’s exe as a Trojan virus. Either disable your anti-virus software or make an exception for the game’s install folder. After that, Verify game files and launch the game.

Another reason for the game crashing at launch could be a lack of administrative rights. Right-click on the game’s exe > properties > compatibility tab > check “Run this program as administrator”. Apply the changes and start the game.

Thrid-party monitoring software could also be the reason by Planet Zoo crashes at launch. If you using MSI Afterburner or GeForce Experience then just disable them.

If you are using MSI Afterburner and disabling it hasn’t solved the issue then follow the steps below.

  • Open RivaTuner Statistics Server(RTSS).
  • Click the Add button and navigate to the game’s folder.
  • Add Planet Zoo’s exe under Application profile properties.
  • Set Application detection level to None for the game application.
  • Close RivaTuner Statistics Server.

If you are a member of the Windows Insider Program then the beta version of the OS might be causing the game to crash. Just opt out of the program and the issue should be resolved.

Franchise Mode Not Working Fix

According to players, when they set the name for their Franchise mode they get a connectivity error. This can be fixed by just using your Steam account name.

Black Screen At Startup Fix

Players are reporting that when they start the game they only get a black screen while the audio plays in the background.

To fix this, start the game and when the black screen appears, press “Alt + Enter”.

The game will go into the Windowed Mode and will start to display. Go to video settings and set a proper resolution for and you’ll be able to play in fullscreen.

Low FPS, Stuttering Fix

performance is a major issue for PC titles and Planet Zoo is no exception. Players are reporting that the game’s performance is not good as there are frequent FPS drops and stuttering while playing.

Here are a few things that might improve Planet Zoo’s performance and eliminate stuttering.

Make sure you are using the latest GPU drivers as they bring game-specific optimizations. Also, make sure there is no process running in the background using too much of your CPU or HDD.

Start the game and disable in-game v.sync. Close the game and then open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3d Settings > Program Settings > select Planet Zoo. Make the following changes in the options below.

Set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
Set “Texture Filtering- Quality” to “High Performance”.
Set Vertical Sync to “On”

Apply these changes and the stuttering will be fixed in Planet Zoo. In case the stuttering is still an issue, follow the steps mentioned above but, set Vertical Sync to “Fast”. The in-game v.sync will remain disabled and the display mode should be set at Fullscreen.

Fast sync kind of emulates G.sync. It allows the GPU to render as many frames as it can like the v.sync is disabled, however, there won’t be any screen tearing. But, it’ll only display as many frames as supported by the display. Meaning, if the GPU is rendering at 80 FPS and the display is 60 HZ, it’ll only display 60 FPS while the remaining frames will be wasted.

GPU Crash Fix

According to players, Planet Zoo crashes randomly while playing with Fatal Error or DirectX error. This is a GPU crash and can be fixed easily. either the GPU is overclocked or it’s old.

Either lock the game at 30 FPS or just revert GPU clock to its default value using MSI Afterburner to fix Planet Zoo GPU crash.

If you don’t want to mess with the GPU clock speed then locking the game at 30 FPS is the alternative. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3d Settings > Program Settings > select Planet Zoo. Enable the “Max FPS Limit” and set the value to 30. Apply the change and the game will be locked at 30 FPS. This will reduce the load on the GPU and will fix the error.

That is all for our Planet Zoo fixes for errors like the crash at launch, high CPU usage, low FPS, and more. If you are facing errors and issues with other PC games or your PC then also see our hub for commonly occurring PC errors and their fixes.
