How To Fix Palworld Unhandled Exception Error On PC

Share

Palworld has proven to be very successful as the game has sold well, considering the game is in Early Access, at the time of writing. Palworld uses the Unreal Engine 5 to render its gorgeous world. However, the game is a Steam Early Access title, and considering UE5 is still in its infancy, there are bound to be errors and issues like in-game Crashes and Crashes at startup or LowLevelFatalError. Now PC users report the “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error. In this Palworld guide, I have listed fixes to help fix the Unhandled Exception error.

Palworld EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Fixes You Can Try

Palwrld PC players report that they are experiencing the Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error at launch with the following error message.

There are multiple reasons why you are experiencing the Unhandled Exception error like outdated Windows, drivers for peripherals interfering with the game, corrupt or missing system files, and more. The following are the fixes that’ll help you fix Palworld’s Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error.

Whitelist The Game In Adguard or Pi-Hole

If you are using ad blockers like Adguard or Pi-Hole, it’s the reason for Palworld’s Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error. Whitelist “telemetry.palworldgame.com” in Adguard or Pi-Hole, whichever you are using, and Palworld’s Unhandled Exception error will be fixed.

Update Windows

Most Windows users don’t like Microsoft rolling out frequent updates as they are often observed to break certain features or cause issues with the operating system. However, your outdated Windows OS is the reason why you are experiencing Palworld’s Unhandled Exception error at startup. Update your Windows OS and the error will be fixed.

  • Open Windows Settings
  • Go to the Windows Update tab
  • click “Check for updates”
  • Install available updates

Delete DirectX Shader Cache

The DirectX shader cache is either corrupt or is having compatibility issues with Palworld, which is why the game is crashing with the “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error. Delete the Direct shader cache and a new one will be created the next time you launch the game and the Unhandled Exception error will be fixed.

  • Open Windows Settings
  • Go to System > Storage > Temporary Files
  • Check “DirectX Shader Cache” and click “Remove Files”

Install or Repiar Visual C++ Redistributables

Visual C++ is required to run any game on a Windows PC. You have missing Visual C++ Redistributable files or the files have been corrupted, which is why Palworld is crashing with the “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error. Install or repair Visual C++ Redistributables to fix the error.

  • Open the Steam library and type ‘Steamworks’ in the search bar
  • Right-click “Steamworks Common Redistributables” > Manage > Browse local files
  • A new Explorer window will open
  • Go to _CommonRedist\vcredist
  • There are folders with names in years starting from 2010
  • Open each folder and run the VC_redis, both x64 and x86 versions
  • Install or repair Visual C++ Redistributables and restart your PC
  • Launch Palwiorld and the Unhandled Exception error is fixed
Right-click Steamworks Common Redistributables > Manage > Browse Local Files.

Repair System Files

Corrupt or missing Windows files is the cause of Palworld’s Unhandled Exception error. Run the SFC scan through Command Prompt and it’ll scan for any missing or corrupt System files and replace them. This will fix the “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error.

  • Open CMD (Command Prompt) and run it as an administrator
  • type sfc /scannow and press enter
  • let the scan complete and it’ll download and replace any corrupt or damaged system files
Run CMD as an administrator.
type the SFC Scan command and press enter.

Remove Peripherals

PC users often use different peripherals like controllers or HOTAS to play video games and or other peripherals for different purposes. These peripherals often interfere with the games and result in an “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error. Remove any unnecessary peripheral you have plunged in and the Unhandled Exception error will be fixed.

Note: Bluetooth devices are the most common cause of the Unhandled exception error. Removing Bluetooth devices has fixed the Palworld Unhandled Exception error for a lot of PC users.

Disable Anti-Virus

PC users use third-party anti-virus software to protect their PCs from malware, however, these anti-virus software often falsely detect games as malware and block them. If you have installed an anti-virus, it’s blocked or quarantined Palworld’s executable which results in the game crashing at startup with the Unhandled Exception error message. To fix the error, either disable real-time protection of exclude the game folder from the anti-virus, I recommend the latter. After that, verify the game files and the Unhandled Exception error won’t pop up again.

Reduce Performance Core Ratio, Underclock CPU

The “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error is also a result of CPU clocks. Other UE5 games experience the same error due to clock speeds of 13th and 14th Gen Intel i7 i9 CPUs. To fix this error, you have to underclock your CPU.

Method# 1

Download Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility and turn the Performance Core ratio down to 53 or 54. PC users report that lowering the Performance Core ratio fixed the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error.

Method# 2

Another way to lower the CPU clocks is using the Power Saver mode in Windows. This will fix The Final’s Unreal Process crashed error.

  • Open Windows Settings
  • Go to System > Power
  • Select “Best Power Efficiency” For Power Mode
  • Play Palworld and the Unhandled Exception error is fixed
