The PS4 exclusive Nioh 2 comes with a handful of Guardian Spirits. You can unlock the Guardian Spirits by following our Nioh 2 guide. We will explain how to unlock them, how to use Yokai Shift, and how to use Yokai Skills.

Nioh 2 Guardian Spirits

Guardian Spirits are used to gain protection and special effects. The player is able to attuned them to the Soul Cores to unlock Yokai Skills. In order to use Yokai Skills, you can simply attune the Guardian Spirit with a specific Soul Core. Skills linked to that soul core will unlock and be at your disposal. You can press R2+triangle or square during the battle to use Yokai Skills. However, keep in mind that this will only work if you have enough Yokai Force. On the other hand, you can use Yokai Shift by pressing triangle+circle.

Makami

How to Unlock: One of the three Guardian spirits

Makami Guardian Spirit is one of the three starting guardians you will have access to in Nioh 2. You can select your Guardian Spirit opening the Shrine Menu. Makami is a wolf spirit that boosts your fire resistance. The effect is highly useful in combat against enemies that use fire and explosive attacks. This Guardian Spirit uses Brute Yokai Shift.

Ame-no-Mitori

How to Unlock: One of the three starting Guardian Spirits

Ame-no-Mitori is one of the three starter Guardian Spirits in Nioh 2 alongside Makami and Kagewani. You can select this Guardian Spirit from the Shrine Menu. Ame-no-Mitori is a bird spirit that boosts your Ki Recovery. You’ll see the Feral Yokai Shift with this spirit.

Kagewani

How to Unlock:  One of the three starting Guardian Spirits

Kagewani is one of the three starter Guardian Spirits alongside Ame-no-Mithori and Mukami. You select Kagewani as your Guardian Spirit from the Shrine Menu. Kagewani is a shark spirit that boosts Life. Kagewani has Phantom Yokai Shift.

Okuri-Inu

Yokai Shift: Brute

Okuri-Inu is one of the Guardian Spirits in Nioh 2. It is a wolf-like spirit that helps the player increase Amrita Gauge Charge. Okuri-Inu has a Brute Yokai Shift which helps avoid being staggered.

Masaru

How to Unlock: n/a

Masaru is a Guardian Spirit in the newly released Nioh 2. You select this one from the Shrine Menu and use Triangle+Circle on your PlayStation 4 to trigger its Feral Yokai Shift. The shift will trigger when the Amrita Gauge is full. Masaru is a monkey spirit that allows auto-Greave Recovery.

Shirohami

How to Unlock: n/a

Shirohami is one of the Guardian Spirits and can be select through the Shrine Menu. It has the Brute Yokai Shift mode which helps the player avoid being staggered by the enemy. To activate its Yokai Shift you can press Triangle+Circle. You can only trigger the Brute mode when the Amrita Gauge is full.

Hiyobishin

How to Unlock: n/a

Guardian Spirit Hiyobishin can be selected from the Shrine Menu after you unlock it. Use the Triangle+Circle to trigger its Brute Yokai Shift that will help players avoid being staggered. Make sure your Amrite Gauge is full before using its Yokai Shift mode.

Yaonami-Hime

How to Unlock: n/a

Yaonami-Hime is a spirit that triggers Life  Drain (Water) attack. You can select this Guardian Spirit from the Shrine Menu of the game. Use its Feral Yokai Shift mode for the ability to dodge attacks while performing quick attacks.

Rokugezo

How to Unlock: n/a

Rokugezo is one of the spirits in the Nioh 2 and it comes with Phantom Yokai Shift. The Phantom Yokai Shift allows you to help you avoid being staggered by the enemy. Rokugezo is an elephant spirit that boosts the player’s toughness.

Usura-Hicho

How to Unlock: n/a

Usura-Hicho is a Guardian Spirit in Nioh 2 and it comes with Brute Yokai Shift mode. The Brute shift allows you to avoid being staggered by the enemy. Usura-Hicho is a butterfly spirit that boosts Life Recovery. Use the Triangle+Circle to trigger the Yokai Shift mode.
