E3 2022 has already been canceled and now Nintendo is not coming to Gamescom 2022 according to a representative at Nintendo of Europe. The rep did mention that players will be able to check out Nintendo games at other events.
Nintendo Skips Gamescom 2022 Cologne Trade Fair
Gamescom 2022 starts on August 24th, 2022 but Nintendo will not be showing up which means no Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, or Animal Crossing. This is an interesting turn of events as Splatoon 3 will release on September 9, 2022, and Gamescom 2022 would have been an ideal platform to showcase the game to players who might be interested in checking it out before launch.
The Frankfurt headquarters of Nintendo of Europe reported the following regarding not showing up at the trade show:
Gamescom is a key event in the event calendar for Nintendo. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against participating in Cologne. Instead, players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch at numerous Germany-wide events. Events that have been planned so far include road shows with our Airstreamer and our Bulli, for example at locations such as the SWR Summer Festival and the Stuttgart Children and Youth Festival. For the Japan and video game fans, we have decided to take part in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt as well as the DoKomi in Düsseldorf and the AnimagiC in Mannheim. More tour stops and activities are planned. We look forward to seeing our fans again at many regional events.
As of right now, very few companies have confirmed their presence at Gamescom 2022. These include THQ Nordic and Koch Media. Publishes such as 2K and Wargaming have also confirmed that they will not be attending the event. Tickets for the event should be available to purchase soon.
Let us know what you think about Nintendo and other companies skipping the event and whether or not you are interested in attending.
