NFS Unbound Crash Fixes You Can Try

It’s been a rocky few years for the Need For Speed franchise as the game has seen a lot of ups and downs in recent years. NFS unbound, on the other hand, has been received well by critics. It has a unique art style that combines anime with the usual realistic depiction of the game cars and the world. However, Need For Speed Unbound players are experiencing crashes and the following are the fixes for it.

Delete PcDx12 Files

Players report that a certain DX12 file is the reason why NFS Unbound is crashing and deleting the file fixes the in-game crashes. Open EA App and select NFS Unbound. Click on Manage > View properties > click on Browse under “Install Location”. New Explorer Window will open with NFS Unbound game files > open “shadercache” folder > delete the ‘0.Generic.PcDx12’ file.

After that, go to the Documents > Need For Speed Unbound > cache > delete the PcDx12 file. Launch NFS Unbound and it won’t crash.

Switch Game Client

EA App is the new PC client from EA but it is far from a perfect. Players report that games often crash due to EA App and NFS Unbound is no exception. Switch to EA Origin and launch NFS unbound from there. The game won’t crash.

However, ensure your Steam, EA App, and Origin accounts are linked before uninstalling EA App. You can do this by heading to their official websites and going to the ‘link other accounts’ section.

Update/Reinstall GPU Drivers

Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Setings > select NFS Unbound > scroll down to Max Frame Rate, enable it and set a value for it. Ensure the Max Frame Rate value you input, is 1/2, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of your Refresh Rate.

One of the benefits of PC gaming is you can overclock components to get the most out of them. CPU and GPUs are most overclocked components of a PC. While it does provide performane boost, but overcloking and cause unpredistable issues like crashing in NFS Unbound and other games. Rever your CPU and GPU back to their default clocks if you have overcloked them and the game will stop crashing. In case you GPU is factory overcloked, open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode.
