How To Start A Family In Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord

In order to create a family in the game, you need a spouse. To get a suitable companion you can head over to a castle or large town. Here you can request to see the lords room. You do not have to do inside. You can just request to see someone. Doing this will show all the people that are living in the area. Select the member of the opposite sex and right-click.

This will show the persons Encyclopedia entry. You can scroll down to the family section where you can find people that are not married. If the person is already married then you will not be able to marry him or her.

Note: You can find single ladies in Lord’s Halls within large towns.

How To Marry

Now that you have selected who you want to marry, you need to win that person over. If you are interested in wooing a woman then you will need to pick the right dialogues. The same goes for wooing a man. If you get things wrong a couple of times then you will have failed and you will need to find someone else to marry.

When talking to the person you want to marry select the “My lady, I wish to profess myself your most ardent admirer” option. Then when you ask for marriage you will get the response that she wants to spend more time getting to know you. In order to get past this, you can leave the castle and save the game. Go back inside and choose the  “So.. I’m glad to have the chance to spend some time together” dialogue.

Now you will have to go through a small mini-game. This is why you saved the game in the first place. The game is based on your social stats and chance. You should aim for the highest yellow arrow to get the highest success rate and hope. If you fail then you can reload the game and try again.

Once you have completed the game you will need to pass the time. After 1-2 in-game days, talk to her again. You will have to complete another mini-game. Once that is done, save the game again.

Talk to your future spouse about their liege. You will get a name in blue. Right-click on the game and you will get the Encyclopedia of the person. In the top right you will get information regarding where the NPC was last seen. You can click on the name of the location and track it.

Now you need to track down the target. Once you have done so, select the  “I wish to discuss the final terms of my marriage with ……” dialogue option. This will bring up a bartering screen. There are plenty of options here but if you have a lot of money then you can use that. Add things to the menu until the gift icon turns green. This means that you have paid enough for the marriage to take place.

Once you have done this, you are married. If you wish to take your spouse with you like any other companion then you can click on their portrait and chose Take Hero to party.

Importance Of Family And Why You Should Marry

As you level up then your family is going to evolve as well. After you are wed, you can raise children and choose your heir. If you die then you can continue the game as your son or daughter.

Note that your character is going to be completely different. If you were a tanky character that had a sword and a shield then the son or daughter might turn out to be an archer. So be ready for a drastic change in playstyle and character if you die.

The wealth and land that you have will be passed down to your heir so you will be able to retain those even if you die. You will have them when you play as your child. As your children grow up you can ask them to do certain tasks and train them to become a warrior or a merchant for example.
