When in Axe Mode, the weapon gets increased range and mobility. Sword Mode, on the other hand, gets additional damage, phial’s bonus, as well as explosive finishers. It’s through Phials that players are able to boost the effectiveness of the weapon even further. Not only this, but the weapon is also incredible when it comes to putting out elemental and status damage.

Controls

First of all, let’s talk about some basic controls that players playing with the Switch Axe should memorize in the game. It’s important to note that the moves of the Switch Axe are divided into two different modes: Axe Mode and Sword Mode.

Axe Mode

  • Axe Overhear Slash: X
  • Axe Wild Swing: A
  • Axe Rising Slash: X + A
  • Axe Forward Slash: LS + X
  • Morph/Reload: ZR

Sword Mode

  • Sword Overhear Slash: X
  • Sword Double Slash: A
  • Element Discharge: X + A
  • Morph/Reload: ZR

Skilbind Attacks

All three Skilbind Attacks that are part of the Switch Axe are mentioned below:

  • Switch Charger: ZL + X
  • Invincible Gambit: ZL + A
  • Soaring Wyvern Blade: ZL + A

Switch Charger uses a Wirebug to propel players forward while restoring their Switch Gauge and preventing it from being consumed for a short duration. Invincible Gambit also sends players forward with a spinning attack. Throughout the duration of the attack, players get immunity against all knockback effects. It can be switched out with Soaring Wyvern Blade that lets players land a Forward Slash. If it connects, it explodes and restores the Activation Gauge.
