How To Fix Voice Chat Not Working in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare

Several reports of the voice chat not working have recently created quite an issue among the Modern Warfare community. Regardless of which console one plays the game, it is still a current issue.

To tackle such a problem, we started digging and came up with reasons why this might have happened and how one can solve it. It has been noted that oftentimes, unknowingly, cross-play chat is disabled, especially in Xbox, which leads players unable to connect to voice chat. Other times, there could be inconsistent data in the dv_options.ini file or conflicting audio drivers. Regardless of what the reason might be, we will cut to the chase and guide you through the steps on how to solve the “Voice chat not working” issue in your game so that you can get back to your uninterrupted hours of gaming. Go ahead and try each fix one by one to see what works for you the best.

Adjust Mic Input Threshold
It is quite common when the Open Mic Recording Threshold is set to a high level; it leads to the voice chat being affected. So, in such cases, all you’ll have to do is set your Open Mic Recording Threshold to a minimum level, and that’s pretty much it. To do that, launch the game, then go to “Options Menu”, click on “Audio”, for voice chat, select “Enabled”, then lower the Open Mic Recording Threshold. Finally, save the changes and restart your game.

Default Communication Devices
For most PC users, their microphone or playback device while playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare or Call of Duty Warzone is not set as the default communication device, which leads to the “Voice Chat Not Working” issue. So, if it’s not clear to you already, all you’ll need to do is set your microphone or playback device as the default communication device on your PC to have smooth voice chat in your game.

You’ll need to first press the Windows and R keys simultaneously > type “mmsys.cpl” and hit Enter > in the Sound Menu, choose the “Playback” tab. Then, right-click the playback device wherever you hear a crackling sound, select it, and set it as the default device. Then select Set as the default communication device when you right-click the same playback device. Do the same steps for your headset. And then finally, restart your PC and see if the issue is resolved.

Edit adv_options.ini File
Oftentimes, certain game files are incompatible with inconsistent data which leads to issues like the one we’re dealing with currently. To get a headstart in solving the Modern Warfare Voice Chat not working issue through this fix, open the File Explorer, head to the location of the game, then in the game installation folder, double click on the player’s folder, then delete the entire contents of the folder except for the adv_options.ini file.

Then right-click on the adv_options.ini file and choose Open With > Notepad. When the file is opened in Notepad, change [configcloudstorageenabled = 1] to 0, then save the modifications. Then, start your game, configure your settings, and quickly close the game again. Finally, restart your game and that’s it.
