Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Perks Guide — New Perk System, Best Perks to Use

Perk System in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has seen a bit of an overhaul. Perks are now divided into three separate categories i.e., Base Perks, Bonus Perks, and Ultimate Perks. With the new Perk System, you no longer choose 3 Perks in Create-a-Class. In this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 guide, we have detailed the new Perk System alongside a complete list of all the Perks.

New Perk System

As mentioned earlier, there is a new Perk System in place in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This new Perk System categorizes all the Perks into three categories. From these three categories, you are allowed to choose 2 Base Perks, a Bonus Perk, and an Ultimate Perk.

After you jump into a match, you only have your Base Perks available. However, about 5 minutes into the match, you get access to your Bonus Perk. And lastly, about 8 minutes into the match, you get access to your Ultimate Perk. It is also important to note that each kill reduces the time needed to get the Bonus Perk and Ultimate Perk by around 12-13 seconds.

With that out of the way, the following are all the Perks available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 listed by their type:

Base Perks

You can have a maximum of 2 of these Perks and you start a match with these readily available:

Battle Hardened
Tactical Equipment such as Flashbangs, Stun, EMP, Shock, and Gas Grenades have reduced effects on you. It also makes you immune to Snapshot Grenades.

Double Time
It doubles the duration of the Tactical Sprint. Moreover, it also increases movement speed while crouched by +30%.

Scavenger
You can resupply ammo (including Throwing Knives) from dead players.

Tracker
Your enemies leave behind a trail of footsteps and their Death Markers are visible on the screen. Aside from that, it also hides all the Kill Markers from the enemy team.

Strong Arm
It displays an on-screen trajectory of your thrown equipment.

E.O.D.
You take less damage from non-killstreak explosions.

Extra Tactical
You gain an extra piece of Tactical Equipment.

Overkill
You can carry 2 Primary Weapons.

Bonus Perks

As mentioned earlier, you can only choose one of these Perks before a match. This perk becomes available around 4-5 minutes into a match. Also, please do note that each kill reduces this time by 12-13 seconds.

Cold Blooded
The enemy team is unable to highlight you with their equipment and optics. You also do not trigger a High Alert warning.

Fast Hands
This one increases reload speed, weapon swap speed, and equipment usage speed.

Focus
You can hold your breath for a lot longer. While doing so, you get reduced sway and flinch while ADS.

Quick Fix
Defeating a player immediately starts regenerating HP. Capturing objectives also increases the regeneration rate.

Resupply
You get 2 charges for Lethal Equipment. These are refreshed after every 25 seconds.

Spotter
You are able to see things such as Killstreaks, Field Upgrades, and Equipment through the walls. ADS-ing on them marks them for your team. In addition to this, you can also hack enemy equipment like Claymores, Tactical Cameras, Recon Drones, etc.

Ultimate Perks

Lastly, we have got the Ultimate Perks. Similar to Bonus Perks, you can only select one of these and it becomes available about 8 minutes into a match.

Bird’s Eye
Your mini-map is zoomed out which is huge. On top of that, UAV and Radar pings reveal an enemy’s direction on the map.

Ghost
You cannot be detected by UAVs, Portable Radars, and Heartbeat Sensors.

Hardline
You need one less kill to get a Killstreak.

High Alert
Your vision starts to pulse whenever an enemy outside your view sees you.

Overclock
You get an additional charge for Field Upgrade. It also increases the Field Upgrade recharge rate by +40%.

Survivor
After death, you enter the Last Stand mode and the ability to revive yourself once per life. It is also possible for your teammates to revive you while you are in the Last Stand mode.

These are all the perks that you can use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. You can also check out our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wiki page for more helpful guides.
