Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Field Upgrades Guide

Similar to earlier games, there are plenty of Field Upgrades to choose from in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. When used at the right time, these Field Upgrades can immediately turn the game in your favor. And while some Field Upgrades are better than others, we have outlined them all in this guide so that you are able to make an informed decision. In this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 guide, we have provided an overview of all the different Field Upgrades that you can use in Multiplayer and Warzone.

Field Upgrades in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are divided into three separate categories. These are Defensive FUs, Offensive FUs, and Reactive FUs. It is also important to note that each Field Upgrade in the game has its unique cooldown timer. Once used, you will not be able to again while it is on cooldown. With that said, below are all the Field Upgrades available to use in Modern Warfare 2:

Deployable Cover
You can place a Deployable Cover that blocks incoming shots, primarily for the player who is directly behind it. It is also possible to mount an LMG on it for better accuracy.

Tactical Insertion
This one is as old as it can get. It can be thrown at a place that you would like to spawn at after dying. And since you need to die in order to take advantage of it, there is no point in using it in modes such as Search and Destroy. It is also important to note that opponents can also destroy it or camp near it to spawn-kill you as soon as you appear.

Trophy System
You can throw it on any surface (including vehicles) and it will destroy a maximum of three ordnances in its radius. These can be Grenades, Flashbangs, Rockets, etc. This one is a life-saver in Warzone if you need to use a vehicle to move to another point.

Portable Radar
Once used, it displays the locations of all nearby enemies. This one is better used in Warzone.

Battle Rage
You can use this to increase your HP regeneration, refresh Tactical Sprint, and get more resistance against Tactical Equipment i.e., Flashbangs, Stun Grenades, etc.

Suppression Mine
Once placed, this creates a deafening sound wave that disrupts vision and impairs movement. It is particularly strong in objective-based modes when you need to lock an entire area down.

Loadout Drop
You can mark a spot to call in a team-wide Loadout Drop that is particularly helpful if you need a quick change of a loadout, especially in Warzone.

Tactical Camera
Once thrown, you can connect to Tactical Camera to mark enemies for your teammates. You can, however, choose to leave it on its own. By doing so, it will alert your team (via sound) if there are enemies in its vicinity.

Munitions Box
Arguably one of the best Field Upgrades to run in the game. Once thrown, it provides the entire team with full ammo and equipment charges. Having it ready in a game of Warzone can be a lifesaver.

Smoke Airdrop
As the name suggests, you can call a drone to deploy a wall of smoke at the targeted location. This is particularly helpful when you need to avoid a sniper or quickly change positions in a gunfight.

Inflatable Decoy
Once used, it will create a decoy at the targeted location in order to confuse enemies. While not super useful, it can definitely create some hilarious moments.

Recon Drone
This is a remote-controlled drone that you can use to mark enemies. This is very helpful if you are not sure of the enemy’s presence in an area before you try to move in.

DDOS
Once used, it disables all electronic equipment, radar, etc. in its radius.

Anti-Armor Rounds
You can use this to get extra rounds that are useful against armored targets. These include Deployable Cover, Armored Vehicles, Body Armor, etc.

Dead Silence
Once used, it will temporarily suppress the sound of your footsteps. If you manage to kill someone while you are under the effects of Dead Silence, it will completely refresh the cooldown.

These are all the Field Upgrades that are available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. You can also check out our detailed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wiki page for more help on the game.
