Soul Lantern is a new type of Lantern in Minecraft added to the game with the release of Nether update. Just like the Respawn Anchor, it’s an important item to bring along in Nether. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how a Soul Lantern works in Minecraft and crafting it.
Minecraft Soul Lantern
Firstly, it’s important to note that the main purpose of a Soul Lantern is not to provide light – a normal Lantern can do a better job at it.
The primary purpose of a Soul Lantern is to keep the Piglins away while you’re in Nether. As for crafting a Soul Lantern, you’ll need the following items to do so:
8x Iron Nuggets + 1x Soul Torch
However, there’s something else that you should be aware of. In order to craft a Soul Lantern, you need to make sure that the Soul Torch is placed in the very middle of the crafting grid surrounded by 8 Iron Nuggets.
Iron Nuggets aren’t hard to come by and you should be able to find them almost everywhere. As for the Soul Torch, you’ll need to craft them. You can do so by using the following recipe:
1x Coal/Charcoal + 1x Stick + 1x Soul Soil / Soul Sand
As for finding these materials, you should be able to locate Soul Soil and Soul Sand in the Nether. Do note that you’ll have to extract them so make sure to have the Shovel.
Also, since some people are confused about getting the Soul Lantern. No, you can’t loot them from chests. Once you’ve crafted it, you should be able to hang it near your vicinity in order to keep Piglins away.
