Minecraft is one of the most popular video games and there have been a number of spin-offs in the franchise. Minecraft Legends is the latest addition to the franchise with a mixed reception from critics and players alike. Aside from the quality of the game, PC and Steam Deck users are experiencing crashes while playing Minecraft Legends, and here is how to fix these crashes.
Minecraft Legends Crash Fixes You Can Try
Minecraft Legends is an action strategy game that tasks players to save the Overworld from Piglin Invasion. The reception hasn’t been a positive one for the game. Not only that, PC and Steam Deck players are experiencing crashes with the game. The following are the crash fixes for Minecraft Legends.
Crash Fix
PC players report that Minecraft Legends is crashing during gameplay or cutscenes. There are multiple reasons why the game is crashing like in-game overlays, overclocked GPU, and more. The following are the fixes that will help resolve in-game crashes.
Disable In-Game Overlays
Almost every piece of software or gaming client on PC offers an in-game overlay for players to access their respective features while playing video games. However, these in-game overlays like Steam in-game overlay and GeForce Experience overlay can cause games to crash and it might be the case with Minecraft Legends. Disable in-game overlays and the game will stop crashing. To disable Steam in-game overlay, open Steam > settings > In-game > uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game.”
If you installed GeForce Experience with your Nvidia Driver, then the GeForce Experience overlay is enabled by default. Open GeForce experience > click on the Gear icon next to your username > General > turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” options.
Disable GPU Overclock
One of the advantages of PC gaming is the ability to overclock hardware to squeeze more performance out of it. However, this can result in unstable gaming performance like crashes. Minecraft legends in-game crashes could be due to your overclocked GPU. If you have overclocked GPU then revert the GPU back to its default clocks. In case your GPU is factory overclocked, then open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode. Enabling the Debug Mode forces the GPU to use reference the clocks recommended by Nvidia. This will fix the Minecraft Legends crashes.

Update GPU Driver
An outdated GPU driver can cause video games to crash on PC, which is one of the reasons why PC players need to keep GPU drivers up-to-date. Ensure you do a clean installation so that all settings are reset and previous driver settings won’t cause issues with video games.
Crash At Startup Fix
PC and Steam Deck players report that Minecraft Legends is crashes at startup and here are the fixes.
Steam Deck Fix
Unfortunately, there is currently no fix for Minecraft Legends crashing at startup on Stam Deck. Compatibility with the Proton seems to be the reason why the game is crashing on Steam Deck. For those who don’t know, Proton is software or a translation layer developed by Valve to allow games to run on Linux that don’t officially support Linux. You’ll have to wait for either Valve to fix it or for the devs to support Linux.
Install Windows
Since Protn compatibility seems to be the reason why Minecraft Legends is crashing at startup on Steam Deck, I suggest you try installing Windows on your handheld, this will eliminate the Proton dependency and will fix the crash at startup issue.
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
Fullscreen optimizations are enabled by default for all applications in Windows. This can cause games to crash at startup and it might be what is causing Last Epoch to crash at launch. Right-click Minecraft Legends in Steam library > Manage > Browse Local Files. A new explorer window will open with game files. Right-click Minecraft Legends executable > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Disable Fullscreen optimizations” and apply changes.
Delete Temp Files
Press Windows + R buttons > type %temp% and press enter. A new window will open containing some files and folders. Delete all the files and Minecraft Legends will stop crashing at launch.
