Lords Of The Fallen 2023 is the reboot of the 2014 original. The remake expands upon the lore of the original and offers more gameplay choices. The game has been received well by critics but has serious performance issues on PC and consoles at launch. PC users report that they are unable to play the game as they are experiencing the Out Of Video Memory error. In this Lords Of The Fallen guide, I will list fixes that will help PC users fix the Out Of Video Memory error.
Lords of the Fallen Out Of Video Memory Error Fixes That’ll Help
Lords of the Fallen, like Immortals of Aveum, is developed using Unreal Engine and like Immortals of Aveum, the game has some serious performance issues on all platforms. Furthermore, PC users are experiencing the Out Of Video Memory error and are unable to play Lords of The Fallen. The following are the fixes that will help PC users fix the Out Of Video Memory error.
Set Custom Virtual Memory Size
Out Of Video Memory error is a common occurrence for video games using Unreal Engine 5 and one of the main reasons for the error is the Windows Paging File or Virtual Memory. The default setting for the virtual memory isn’t allocating enough of it which results in Lords Of The Fallen crashing with the Out Of Video Memory error. Set a custom Virtual Memory size to fix the Out of Video memory error.
- Open Windows Settings go to About > Advanced system settings
- Click “Settings” under the Advanced tab
- Click “Change” under Virtual Memory
- Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”
- Select a drive that has available space
- Check “Custom Size”, and input the Initial size and Maximum size in MBs
- Press OK and restart your PC
- Launch Lords of the Fallen and the Out of video memory error is fixed
Note: You have to set the Initial size and Maximum size values yourself depending on your RAM size. Virtual memory values have to be between 1.5x or 3x of your installed RAM size. If you have 2GB of RAM, you can set a maximum of 6,144 MB. Calculate your value in MB and input it in both Initial size and Maximum size.
Enable Debug Mode
PC users even with a high-end GPU Like and an RTX 4080 are unable to play Lords Of The Fallen as the game crashes with the Out Of Video Memory error. Most GPUs from third-party AIB partners use higher GPU and memory clocks compared to Nvidia’s reference clocks. This sometimes causes video games to crash with the Out Of Video Memory error. Enable Debug Mode through the Nvidia Control Panel to force the GPU to use Nvidia’s recommended clocks to fix the Out Of Video Memory error. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug mode.
Increase Shader Cache Size
Another reason for the Out Of Video Memory error is the default shader cache size. As I mentioned before, Lords Of The Fallen is developed using Unreal Engine 5, and Unreal Engine relies heavily on shaders to render video games. The default values set by the video driver isn’t enough for Lords Of The Fallen which is causing the game to crash with an Out Of Video Memory error. Increase the Shader Cache Size to fix the Out Of Video Memory error.
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel
- Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings
- Scroll down to Shader Cache
- Select 10 GB and apply the changes.
Delete DirectX Shader Cache
The DirectX cache on your PC might be corrupt or damaged which is causing the Out Of Video Memory error. Delete the Direct Shadder cache and Windows will create a new one which’ll fix the Out Of Video Memory error with Lords Of The Fallen.
- Open disk cleanup
- select C drive and press OK
- Select DirectX Shader Cache
- Press OK and Windows will delete the DirectX Shader cache
- Launch Lords Of the Fallen and the Out Of Video Memory error is fixed
