Last Epoch is a Steam Early Access title, at the time of writing, and issues are expected with the game. Last Epoch players are experiencing crashes and the following are the fixes.
Last Epoch Crash Fixes You Can Try
Players report that the game is crashing in-game and for some players, the game crashes at startup. There are multiple reasons behind Last Epoch crashes like in-game overlays, overclocked GPU, and more. The following are the fixes that will help with the crashing issue.
Crash Fix
Players report that the game is crashing randomly while playing, which makes it difficult to enjoy it. Here are the fixes for the Last Epoch in-game crash.
Disable XMP Profile
XMP Profile is enabled through BIOS and ensures the RAM is used to its full potential. However, some games don’t play well with XMP profile enabled and Last Epoch is one of them. Open BIOS, disable the XMP profile, and Last Epoch will stop crashing.
Disable GPU Overclock
One of the advantages of PC hardware is that it can be overclocked. However, overclocking can also cause issues with apps and games like in-game crashes. If you have overclocked your GPU, this might be the reason why Last Epoch is crashing. If you are wondering why Last Epoch is the only game that crashes with your overclocked GPU, you have to understand that it’s an Early Acces title. It’s not optimized yet and is probably overworking your GPU. Revert your GPU to its default clocks and the issue will be fixed. However, if you are using a factory overclocked GPU, open Nvidia Control Panel > help > Debug Mode. Debug mode forces the GPU to use Nvidia reference clocks and Last Epoch will stop crashing.

Disable In-game Overlays
A lot of PC applications have their in-game overlays for easy access. However, these in-game overlays can interfere with the game and cause it to crash. This might be the case with Last Epoch. Disable in-game overlays like Steam in-game overlay, Disacord overlay, or GeForce Experience overlay and the Last Epoch will stop crashing. To disable Steam overlay, open Steam > settings > In-game > uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game.”
If you have installed GeForce Experience with the Nvidia Driver, its in-game overlay is enabled by default. Open GeForce experience > click on the Gear icon next to your username > General > turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” options.
Limit Max FPS
Playing video games at high FPS is one of the main selling points for PC gaming. However, playing games at unlocked FPS, especially Early Access titles, can overwork your GPU and cause Last Epoch to crash in-game. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select Last Epoch > enable Max Frame Rate and set a value for it. Don’t input any random value for Max Frame Rate, the value should be 1/2, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of your monitor’s refresh rate.
Update/Reinstall GPU Driver
Updating your GPU driver can also fix in-game crashes. If your GPU driver is already up-to-date, I suggest you reinstall it and do a clean installation, see the images below. Doing a clean installation will reset all driver settings so that they won’t cause the same issues.
Crash At Startup Fix
Last Epoch players report that the game is crashing at startup and for some players is causing BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). The following are the fixes for the Last Epoch crash at launch issue.
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
Fullscreen optimizations are enabled by default for all applications in Windows. This can cause games to crash at startup and it might be what is causing Last Epoch to crash at launch. Right-click Last Epoch in Steam library > Manage > Browse Local Files. A new explorer window will open with game files. Right-click Last Epoch executable > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Disable Fullscreen optimizations” and apply changes.
Clear Temporary Files
Windows uses and stores temporary files which can build up over time and cause games like Last Epoch to crash at startup. Press Windows + R buttons > type %temp% and press enter. A new window will open containing some files and folders. Delete all the files Last Epoch will stop crashing at launch.
Install/Update Visual C++ Redistributables
Missing or corrupt Visual C++ files are another reason behind Last Epoch crashing at startup. Players also report that they get a missing .dll file error at launch. Update/install the latest Visual C++ Redistributables to fix the issue.
That is all for our fixes for Last Epoch crashes. Also, see our hub for commonly occurring PC errors and their fixes if you are experiencing errors with other PC video games or PC.
