To begin, you will first need to collect enough Manuscript Fragments. Once you have collected enough Manuscript Fragments, you will need to head over to Mind Palace where you will be able to upgrade your weapons. Here, you will have the option to use these Manuscript Fragments to upgrade various aspects of your weapons i.e. increasing reload speed, improving headshots, lifesteal, etc.
It is important to note that these Alex Casey Cold Case Lunch Boxes will not show up on your map, so you will need to be thorough in your exploration. Also, these upgrades require a lot of Manuscript Fragments so you will need to find quite a lot of them.
Alan
As for Alan, he upgrades his weapons through the Words of Power that you will encounter throughout the game — these are etched into the environment.
In order to upgrade a weapon, you will first need to find a Word of Power related to that specific weapon type. Once you have located the Word of Power, interact with it to imbue your weapon with a new upgrade. Similar to Saga, these upgrades can range from increased damage to faster reload times, larger magazine, etc.
