As you progress through the magical world of Hogwarts Legacy, you will find yourself constantly upgrading your gear to keep up with challenges that the game throws at you. This is where Traits come into play! These can be slotted in your gear, provided that you have the required materials, and provide substantial bonuses to character power. However, actually using these Traits can be a bit confusing, especially if you have just started out. In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about how Traits work in Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy Traits
Hogwarts Legacy has a total of 75 Traits, which are necessary to earn the 100% completion status. You can track how many Traits you have found in the Collections. There are a few Traits that are specifically rewarded for completing certain Combat Challenge Tiers. For example, the Protego Shielding, Amphibial Protection, etc. are obtained from different Combat Challenges. To craft better Traits, you must find Trait Recipes, which are obtained as rewards for Combat Challenges. Alternatively, you can also find them in Bandit Camps.
Traits have three levels, with higher levels providing stronger effects. To equip traits, you need to craft an Enchanted Loom in the Room of Requirements, which is accessible after completing the story quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom. You will need to fulfill various requirements to equip these Traits:
- T1 Traits — x1 Puffskein Fur
- T2 Traits — x1 Diricawl Feather
- T3 Traits — x1 Kneazle Fur
Types of Traits
Traits in Hogwarts Legacy are divided into 2 categories:
These include a range of protections against specific creatures like Dugbogs, Spiders, Trolls, and others.
These improve spells with a variety of effects such as damage, etc.
How to Upgrade Traits
You can easily upgrade gear at the Enchanted Loom without any special recipes. Each upgrade adds a secondary stat. to the gear, a total of three times max. It is important to note that the Gear Quality does not change with upgrades, therefore, prioritizing upgrading Legendary Gear is advisable to avoid material wastage.
You can add Traits at the Enchanted Loom. You can add only one Trait per gear-piece but can swap them freely with the required materials. The rarity of your gear i.e. Superb, Extraordinary, or Legendary determines the Trait Tier you can add to it. Materials needed for Upgrades are primarily obtained from Magical Beasts encountered in the wild. Unlike most recipes, Traits cannot be bought — these are primarily acquired by raiding Bandit Camps.
