How to Unlock Fast Travel in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Exploring the vast world of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom can be a thrilling experience, but without fast travel, it can quickly become frustrating. Unfortunately, when you first start the game on the Great Sky Island, fast travel is not yet available. This can be a real hassle, especially when you need to backtrack to complete quests or revisit locations.

Thankfully, there is a way to unlock fast travel in the game. In this guide, we will take you through the steps you need to know to unlock fast travel in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. We’ll explain what you need to do, where you need to go, and what items you need to collect to unlock this useful feature.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in Zelda ToTK

How you unlock fast travel in Zelda ToTK depends on what map you are on. The process is different in the Great Sky Island compared to Hyrule and the Depths.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in the Great Sky Island

To unlock fast travel, you must first complete the three shrines mentioned earlier; Ukouh, In-isa, and Gutanbac Shrines. Each of these shrines presents a unique set of challenges, including puzzles that you need to solve to progress. Completing these shrines can be a bit challenging, but it is an important step in unlocking fast travel.

Once you have completed all three shrines, you need to head to the Temple of Time to meet Princess Zelda. When you speak with the princess, she will give you the Recall ability.

After obtaining the Recall ability, Rauru will show up and tell you about the Nachoyah Shrine. Note that although you don’t need to complete Nachoyah Shrine to unlock the fast travel point, you do need to complete it to open the door to Hyrule and exit Great Sky Island.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in the Kingdom of Hyrule

To unlock fast travel in Hyrule you first need to progress further in the “Crises at Hyrule Castle” main quest. During your second visit to Lookout Landing, Purah will tell you about Skyview Towers and how to use them to update your map. Wait for Purah to fix the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower (while you visit the Emergency Shelter underground).

Visit Purah after your visit to the Emergency Shelter and interact with the Skyview Tower. Link will connect his Purah device to the tower before he is thrown way up in the skies of Hyrule. After the cutscene, the Skyview Tower will act as your fast travel point.

This is the case with all Skyview Towers; find towers and interact with them to unlock fast travel points in Hyrule.

Tip

All shrines you complete in Hyrule (Surface) map also become fast travel points.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in the Depths

The Depths is the third part of the map and it is the most difficult to navigate due to extreme darkness. To unlock fast travel points in the Depth, find and interact with Lightroots to Unlock Fast Travel Points.

Fast Travel Via Travel Medallion

If you want to set up custom fast travel points in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, the best and only way to do that is to get Travel Medallions. There are three of them in the game and each is tied to a side quest/adventure.

  • Medallion #1: Presenting: The Travel Medallion!
  • Medallion #2: Map 10 regions in the surface world
  • Medallion #3: Map 15 regions in the surface world.

Once you have finished the Hateno Village Research Lab side quest, go and speak to Robbie at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. During the conversation, Robbie will mention that he has made new upgrades for the Purah Pad. After this conversation, speak to Robbie again and select the option to begin the Travel Medallion side quest.

To set up a fast travel point in a game, go to the Inventory menu and find the Key Items section. Within that section, select the Travel Medallion and choose where you want to place the portal. Later, when you want to fast travel to that location, open the Map and select the Travel Medallion icon. Choose the Travel option to teleport to the location. If you change your mind about the location of the Travel Medallion, you can select the Collect Medallion option to remove it and put it back in the Key Items menu.
