Weapon mastery in New World is part of your character progression and it lets your character unlock different weapon abilities for each type of weapon in the game. The more you use a weapon to kill enemies the more that weapon gains mastery points.

New World: How to Respec Mastery Points
To respec mastery points you need to visit the Weapon Mastery UI that gives you the option to do so. However, it will take some Azoth to respec your points. The same is the case with skills and attributes respeccing.
There are 11 weapon types in total and each has two Mastery Trees. You can select active and passive skills. Some mastery skills are offensive while others are of a more defensive nature.
The best way to earn mastery points is to farm easy-to-kill enemies with the weapon you want to master. Over time you will earn a ton of mastery points to invest toward your favorite weapon type.
