At the start of the game, Link will lose most of his HP hearts and over the course of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom journey, you will have to restore them for any chance of survival. Increasing max HP becomes an absolute necessity in Zelda TotK due to battle-hardened enemies being able to one-shot Link 99% of the time.
Without a high max HP, you’ll find yourself constantly restarting from the last checkpoint, which can be frustrating and time-consuming. By increasing your max HP, you’ll not only survive battles more easily, but you’ll also be able to explore more dangerous areas and take on tougher enemies.
The more you progress in the story, the tougher it gets to even reach objective markers. So in this guide, I will explain everything you should know on how to increase Max Health and when should you start grinding towards this goal in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: How to Increase Max Health With Heart Containers
To increase Link’s max HP and add more heart containers, you need to grind the shrines in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Shrines are small dungeons with puzzles and sometimes a couple of enemies. There are a plethora of shrines available to you and you get a pretty good hang of them during your time on the Great Sky Island.
Each shrine you complete grants you a Light of Blessing orb and you’ll need four of them to add 1 Heart Container to the max HP. Shrines aren’t marked on the map outside the Great Sky Island so until you get close enough, they won’t show up on the map. Thankfully, they can be easily spotted from a distance.
Shrines have a giant green cloud on top of them which makes it easy to see them from a distance. When you get close enough, interact with the green hand orb in front to enter. Most shrines have a 2-3 puzzles max and some shrines only have battle sections. Once you have 4 Light of Blessings, find a Goddess statue and pray to her.
There is a Goddess Statue in the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island. You can fast travel to the Ukouh Shrine which is the closest fast travel point to the Temple of Time.
