Healing in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a fairly simple process. It can, however, be a little confusing for players coming straight from Breath of the Wild. In this guide, we’ll cover everything on how to heal in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and the changes from Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
How to Heal in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Healing in Hyrule Warriors has changed a little compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. No longer will you be able to pause the game to heal from cooked meals. While you’re needed to select food before a mission, none of the meals provide healing effects. Instead, they provide benefits like damage reduction, increased mobility, and others.
When it comes to actual healing, apples dropped by enemies are your primary source of recovering hearts. The drop rate of apples is completely random and you can’t expect every enemy to drop one. However, it does seem like tougher foes have a higher drop rate than normal grunts.
Picking up apples in Hyrule Warriors will continue to fill a gauge denoted by an apple. Whenever you’re running low on HP, press ‘L’ and ‘B’ at the same time to bring up a menu detailing various options. While in the menu, press ‘B’ again to heal.
Healing will continue to deplete the food gauge. In order to fill this gauge up, you’ll need to collect additional apples. It’s generally a good idea to keep the food gauge filled up, especially while facing tougher foes. Lastly, do note that if you already have a full food gauge and HP, you won’t be able to pick anymore apples unless you take some damage.
