How to Get More FPS in Valheim

Valheim is a simple yet attractive game. It looks like it runs smooth but it really takes a good machine to make it run on it. If you are struggling to get high FPS in Valheim, this guide is for you to give a substantial FPS increase to your game.

Tips to Increase FPS in Valheim

FPS in Valheim usually drops whenever you run into a dense forest with intensive lightning and fog, which really take up some GPU power or when fighting bosses. Many players are struggling to get high FPS in Valheim, but we have discovered a simple solution to boost FPS and not to make the game look ugly.

This method helps you modify a config file to change the graphics in-game with ease. These are the steps that you will need to follow in order to access the config file and change the graphic settings in Valheim:

  • Navigate to this folder; Local disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Valheim > valheim_Data, or whereever the game is installed on.
  • Open the file named “boot”.
  • This file can be opened with any text editor.
  • Add these two lines at the very start of the “boot” file.
  • Line 1 – “gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1”
  • Line 2 – “gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1”
  • Save the changes and close the file.

Now, navigate to the steam and right-click on Valheim’s icon, and open “Properties” from there. A new “General” tab will be opened, type “-window-mode-exclusive” in the Launch options box. After doing all the above steps, launch Valheim and go to the task manager by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting task manager, or simply pressing “ctrl + alt + delete” to open the task manager.

Now, navigate onto the Valheim in task manager, right-click on it and select “Details” options. From there, set the priority of Valheim to high. This priority step will have to be repeated every single time you launch the game.

Doing all these steps will give you a boost of 20-40 FPS, although not every player will see this much improvement as it heavily depends on the hardware they are using. We should also consider that Valheim is currently in an early stage, which means its performance will increase with time, and it will be optimized as time passes.

Still, there is hope for most of the players to see an increase in FPS by performing these steps, or players can also use a game booster application, such as “Razer Cortex,” which is a really good application when it comes to boosting game’s performance or windows’ performance as a whole.

This was all you needed to know about increasing the FPS in Valheim and increasing its performance. For more help on Valheim, be sure to check out our detailed Valheim wiki guides.
