To get back to the Great Sky Island you don’t need to fashion any type of Zonai device. The best way to do this is to simply use the fast travel points. You can fast travel back to the Great Sky Island from anywhere on the Surface or Depths map.
Open the map and hit up the D-pad to open the Great Sky Island map. There are four fast travel points where you can travel to including Nachoyah Shrine, In-isa Shrine, Ukouh Shrine, and Gutanbac Shrine. The process of traveling back is simple enough as long as you know how to navigate to the Sky Map section in the menu.
