How To Fix Error 80246005
As I mentioned above, this particular error often pops up when users try to update Windows OS or when the OS itself fails to store updates to the Catroot2 folder.
There are also other reasons behind this error and the following are the fixes that will help you remove the error and update your Windows.
Fix #1
The first fix for the Windows Update Error 80246005 is to modify the Catroot2 folder a bit. Click on the search bar, type “CMD” and run it as administrator. Type “attrib -h -s -r c:\windows\system32\catroot2” and press enter. Then type “attrib -h -s -r c:\windows\system32\catroot2\*.*” and press enter. Exit CMD, restart your PC and the error will be fixed.
Fix #2
If the error is still isn’t fixed then you need to restart the Cryptographic Service to fix the error and here is how to fix it. Click on the search bar, type “Services” and run it. From the right side of the window look for “Windows update service”.
Right-click on it and select “Restart” or “Start” whichever is available. Now look for “Cryptographic Services” > right-click on it and select “Restart” or “Start” whichever is available. restart your PC and the update error is now fixed.
