Starfield Error 0xC0000005 Fixes You Can Try

Error 0xC0000005 is an Access Violation error related to memory. There are multiple reasons for the Error 0xC0000005 like corrupt or incompatible DirectX shaders, in-game overlays interfering with the game, not enough RAM, and more. The following are the fixes that will help players fix the Starfield Error 0xC0000005. Also, Starfield didn’t launch with DLSS or XESS, you can check our guide for How to Enable DLSS and XESS in Starfield.

Delete DirectX Shader Cache

DirectX shaders are stored on your system to speed up the rendering process. However, the shaders can go corrupt which results in the Error 0xC0000005. You experiencing the error with Starfield could possibly be due to DirectX Shader Cache and deleting it will fix the 0xC0000005 error. Navigate to C:\Users\’your username’\AppData\Local\NVIDIA and delete the DXCache folder.

Another way to delete the DirectX cache is to open Disk Cleanup > select C drive and press Ok > select DirectX Shader Cache > press OK, and Windows will delete the DirectX Shader cache.

Increase RAM

Not having enough physical RAM on your system is another reason for the Starfield 0xC0000005 error. The game requires at least 16 GB of RAM to run properly and if you have below that amount of RAM, then you need to increase it.

Disable In-Game Overlays

In-game overlays are quite common for gaming-related software on PC. These overlays are useful as they allow gamers to access features that would otherwise be difficult to access. However, in-game overlays can interfere with games like Starfield and cause errors like 0xC0000005. Disable in-game overlays like Steam in-game overlay, GeForce Experience overlays, or Discord Overlay.

To disable Steam in-game overlay, open Steam > settings > In-game > uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game.”

Open settings
uncheck “Enable Steam overlay while in-game”

If you installed GeForce Experience with your Nvidia Driver, then the GeForce Experience overlay is enabled by default. Open GeForce experience > click on the Gear icon next to your username > General > turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” options.

Click on the Gear icon next to your username
disable in-game overlay

Disable RTSS Rivatuner

RTSS Rivatuner is part of MSI Afterburner that PC users use to monitor a game’s performance. Starfield is definitely a game that PC users would monitor its performance due to it being a CPU-heavy title. Interestingly, using RTSS Rivatuner is one of the reasons why Starfield players are experiencing the 0xC0000005 error. Disable RTSS Rivatuner Statistic Server and the Starfield error will be fixed.
