Assassin’s Creed Mirage has launched for PC and consoles with a good reception from Critics. Not only that, AC Mirage is an optimized game on PC, which is a rarity these days. However, not everything about the game is perfect as PC users are experiencing crashes with the game like in-game crashes or crashes at startup. In this Assassin’s Creed Mirage guide, I will list fixes that will help PC users fix the crashes in the game.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Crash Fixes That’ll Help
As I mentioned above, AC Mirage is an optimized game on PC with minimal glitches and runs smoothly at launch even on mid-range PCs. Mirage is a return to the game’s roots where stealth and assassinations are the focus instead of loot and RPG mechanics. Despite all that, PC users are experiencing crashes with Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
According to PC players, AC Mirage crashes to the desktop while playing, crashes at startup, or doesn’t launch when they click on Play. There are multiple reasons why the game is crashing like DLSS, Ubisoft Connect overlay or in-game overlays in general, higher GPU clocks, corrupt or missing system files, and more. The following are the fixes that will help PC users fix the AC Mirage crashing issue.
Disable DLSS
DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is an upscaling technique unique to Nvidia RTX GPUs. While AC Mirage offers FSR and XESS upscale, DLSS is undoubtedly the best one. Unfortunately, DLSS is causing Assassin’s Creed Mirage to crash to the desktop while playing. Disable DLSS and use another upscaler to fix the AC Mirae in-game crashes.
- Open in-game settings
- Go to the Graphics tab
- Scroll down to the “Upsample type option”
- Select any upscaler other than DLSS and apply the changes
- Play Assassin’s Creed Mirage and it won’t crash in-game
Disable Ubisoft Connect Overlay
In-game overlays are a common feature for video game-related programs and software. They allow PC users to access features without minimizing the game. Ubisoft Connect, Steam, Discord, and GeForce Experience have their own in-game overlays, and enabling them often causes video games to crash. Ubisoft Connect overlay is one of the reasons for Assassin’s Creed Mirage crashes, disable it and other in-game overlays and it’ll fix AC Mirage’s in-game crash issue.
To disable the Ubisoft Connect overlay, open the Ubisoft Connect settings, go to General, and uncheck “Enable in-game overlay for supported games”.
To disable Steam in-game overlay, open Steam > settings > In-game > uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game.”
If you installed GeForce Experience with your Nvidia Driver, then the GeForce Experience overlay is enabled by default. Open GeForce experience > click on the Gear icon next to your username > General > turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” options.
Enable Debug Mode
GPUs from AIB partners like MSI, Gigabyte and more often use higher GPU and memory clocks compared to Nvidia’s reference clocks. These higher clocks often are the reason for video games to crash on PC and is potentially the reason why Assassin’s Creed Mirage is crashing, even if you have an RTX 4090. Enable Debug mode to force the GPU to use Nvidia’s recommended clocks and Assassin’s Creed Mirage will stop crashing in-game. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode.
Run SFC Scan
Missing or corrupt system files is one of the reason why Assassin’s Creed Mirage is crashing at startup. SFC is a built-in Windows service that scans and then downloads/replaces missing or corrupt system files. Run the SFC scan and it’ll fix the AC Mirae crashing at launch or not starting issue. Open CMD and run it as an administrator, type sfc /scannow, and press enter. Let the scan complete and it’ll take care of any missing or corrupt system files. Play Assassin’s Creed Mirage and it won’t crash at startup.
Delete DirectX Shader Cache
DirectX shaders are stored to improve performance and other reasons that can get corrupt over time. A corrupt or damaged DirectX shader cache is another reason for Assassin’s Creed Mirage crash and it can be fixed by deleting the cache.
- Open Disk Cleanup
- Select C Drive
- Check “DirectX Shader Cache” and press Ok
- Launch Assassin’s Creed Mirage and a new DirectX cache will be created and the game won’t crash anymore
Remove Unnecessary Peripherals
One of the advantages of a PC is the ability to use any peripheral you want. However, every peripheral, like Controllers or HOTAS, comes with its own drivers and software to operate them. These drivers and software for peripherals interfere with the games and cause crashes and it is the reason Assassin’s Creed Mirage is crashing. Remove all unnecessary peripherals from your PC plug them back one by one and play AC Mirage. This will let you know which peripheral is causing Mirage to crash. Once you find the peripheral, remove it while you play AC Mirage and it won’t crash.
Disable Anti-Virus
Anti-virus software protects PC users from malware and viruses. Often these anti-virus software falsely detect a game’s executable as a virus or malware and quarantines it. This results in Assassin’s Creed Mirage crashing at startup or not launching. DeepGaurd is known for detecting game executables as malware and if you have installed it or any third-party anti-virus software then disable it.
After that Verify game files by opening Ubisoft Connect > select Assassin’s Creed Mirage > properties > click “Verify files” under Local Files. Launch Assassin’s Creed Mirage and it won’t crash at launch.
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
Fullscreen optimizations are enabled by default for every program and game running on Windows. Fullscreen Optiomizations being enabled is the reason why Assassin’s Creed Mirage is crashing at startup and disabling it will fix it.
- Open Ubisoft Connect and select AC Mirage
- Go to Properties and click on ‘Open Folder’ under Local Files
- A new window will open with AC Mirage game files
- Right-click “ACMirage” and select Properties
- Go to the Compatibility Tab, check “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations” and apply changes
- Launch Assassin’s Creed Mirage and it won’t crash
Run The Game In Compatibility Mode
Another fix for the Assassin’s Creed Mirage crashes is running the game in compatibility mode.
- Open Ubisoft Connect and select AC Mirage
- Go to Properties and click on ‘Open Folder’ under Local Files
- A new window will open with AC Mirage game files
- Right-click “ACMirage” and select Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab
- Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 7 from the drop-down menu
- Apply the changes and play AC Mirage and it won’t crash at launch
