The Elden Ring Great Runes are powerful relics that can be obtained by defeating the main bosses. When equipped, they offer a variety of passive benefits that can help you with different challenging boss encounters. With their power at your disposal, nothing will be able to stand in your way. However, you’ll need to use a Rune Arc to activate and equip them. Once you have a Great Rune equipped, you can switch between them at any time by using a Rune Arc. Keep in mind that you can only have one Great Rune equipped at a time, so choose wisely based on your needs.
Where To Find Great Runes
Great Runes can be obtained by defeating some of the main bosses in the game. The following are the bosses that you need to defeat in order to get their Great Runes:
Great Rune | Boss | Location | Effect |
Godrick’s Great Rune | Godrick the Grafted | Stormveil Castle | +5 all attributes |
Great Rune of The Unborn | Rennala Queen of the Full Moon | Raya Lucaria Academy | Grants Rebirth |
Radahn’s Great Rune | Starscourge Radahn | Redmane Castle | +15% Max HP, FP, and Stamina |
Morgott’s Great Rune | Morgott the Omen King | Leyndell, Royal Capital | +25% Max HP |
Rykard’s Great Rune | Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy | Volcano Manor | Regenerates 185 HP per enemy killed |
Mohg’s Great Rune | Mohg, Lord of Blood | Moghwyn Dynasty Mausoleum | Grants “Blessing of Blood” to Summoned Phantoms |
Malenia’s Great Rune | Malenia, Blade of Miquella | Haligtree Roots | Reduces effectiveness of Healing Flasks to 25%, but attacks dealt after taking damage recover HP |
Mending Rune of the Death-Prince | Awarded by Fia | Alter the ending of the game |
Restoring Great Runes
When it comes to Great Runes, things aren’t as simple as getting and using them. Once you have a great rune, you need to head over to a Divine Tower to empower it. The Divine Tower needs to be in the same region as the boss that dropped the Great Rune. Once the Great Rune has been empowered, you can use a Rune Arc to enable its effects.
How to Use Great Runes
Great Runes do not do anything on their own. You need to use a Rune Arc to activate them. You can equip a Great Rune at a site of grace and then activate it by using a Rune Arc any time you like. If you are up against a boss, then we recommend using a Rune Arc before heading through the fog door.
Rune Arcs can be found in the open world, but you can get them consistently by completing objectives in multiplayer Coop or defeating Giant Rats. The Giant Rats do have a low drop rate for Rune Arcs.
Note: Mending Rune of the Death-Prince cannot be equipped, and its only use is to change the ending of the game.
