In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Tera Types define what a Pokemon can become while Terastallizes. The change in Tera Type is known as Terastallization. In short, your Pokémon’s transformation allows it to change its type and take on a more crystalline look. For example, Pikachu’s Normal-Type Electric will turn into a Flying-Type Pokemon when it undergoes Terastallization.
With their unique characteristics, Tera Types give trainers an entirely new way to experience playing Pokemon. In this guide, I’ll tell you how to change the Tera Types in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Be mindful of the Tera Type mechanic when picking a Pokemon for battle, as it alters their attacking stats, making old strategies useless. The Tera Types feature improves your gameplay significantly. However, it can be hard to come by. The only way to make this happen is to get your hands on a collectible known as Tera Shards. They’re rare and, therefore, hard to find. The chances of finding them are increased if you’re in a Tera Raid, but there is also a possibility that you’ll come across them while moving around randomly.
The challenge is that every Tera Type has its Shard. So, you cannot use Dark Tera Shards as a replacement for Fighting Tera shards, for example. Players must collect 50x Shards of the desired type to change a Pokemon’s Tera Type. Once you have gathered enough shards, take them to the Treasure Eatery Restaurant and talk to any NPC inside – they will help your Pokemon solve their Tera-Type.
Where to Find Tera Shards and Tera Shards Sandwich Recipe
You can quickly get your hands on up to 50 shards, and to do this efficiently, you should start by creating raid-ready Pokémon using monsters like Perrserker or Iron Hands. These shards are used to transform a Pokémon’s Tera Type into Scarlet and Violet. After assembling a strong team, participate in raids using various tactics and exploiting type advantages to acquire the desired Tera Type. For instance, Iron Hands performs well against Dark-type Pokémon like Umbreon, but if Umbreon is a Fairy Tera type, it will pose a challenge. An internet connection with Nintendo Switch Online provides trainers with the added advantage of relying on other trainers for support instead of relying solely on NPCs.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, certain sandwich recipes can speed up the farming of Tera Shards. According to YouTuber Papa Jefé, using level 2 Raid Power Sandwiches can give trainers an extra drop, allowing them to earn up to 8 Tera Shards in one go. Similarly, Level 3 Sandwiches are highly effective, as they guarantee the possibility of additional drops.
