A major reason for capturing unicorns in Hogwarts Legacy is to farm Unicorn Hair, which is vital for upgrading gear in the game. Better gear means improved defense, helping players survive longer in battles. You can also purchase Unicorn Hair from Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade Village for 700 Galleons, but it’s a costly alternative. But capturing Unicorns in the game is not an easy feat which is what this guide will help you with.
Hogwarts Legacy Unicorns
Before starting your quest, ensure you complete a Beast Class to become aware of the Magical Beasts, unlock the Room of Requirement for storing captured beasts, and acquire the Nab-Sack, which is obtained through the The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom questline.
Unicorns are exclusively found in the Unicorn Den, located in the Forbidden Forest, northeast part of the forest, west of Hogsmeade Valley. To access the den, use Floo Flame to travel to Upper Hogsfield and head west. The Unicorn Den sign will appear on your map as you approach. While the main Unicorn Den is in the Forbidden Forest, unicorns can also be found in Northern Hogsfield, near a flu marker for quick access. Another specific location is south of the East North Ford Bog Entrance Floo Flame in the Forbidden Forest, indicated by a paw icon on the game map.
To capture a Unicorn, approach with stealth using Disillusionment to become invisible. Then, immobilize the Unicorn by casting Levioso to levitate it or Arresto Momentum to slow it down. Once immobilized, use the Nab-Sack to capture it. It’s noted that unicorns may require 5-6 button prompts before being captured in the Nab-Sack, which can be challenging due to their swift nature.
You should also consider undertaking the “Unique Unicorn” side quest offered by Betty Bugbrooke in Hogsmeade for a guided experience in Unicorn capturing. This questline requires you to find “Hazel” the Unicorn. To complete this quest, ensure it is Winter, then locate Hazel using the Disillusionment spell and Arresto Momentum before capturing her with the Nab-Sack
Once captured, Unicorns can be cared for in your Vivarium. Regular interaction, like feeding and petting, yields Unicorn Hair, which is used for gear upgrades. Breeding Unicorns is possible after completing the Foal of the Dead questline. To breed unicorns, capture both a male and a female. Once you have both, place them in the Vivarium’s Breeding Pen. The breeding process starts by selecting the Unicorn in the pen and waiting for a baby unicorn to be born
Unicorns can be sold to Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade for gold, although it’s not recommended unless necessary.
