One of the Pokémon introduced with The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield is Calyrex. In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about how to catch Calyrex in Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra DLC.
How to Catch Calyrex in The Crown Tundra DLC
Catching Calyrex in the new Crown Tundra DLC is a multi-step process. The following are all the details that you need to know about catching the legendary Pokémon.
The first thing that you’ll need to do in order to set off on your Calyrex adventure is talking to Peony in your home base located in Freezington. You’ll get a lot of useful information regarding the quest from Peony along with some clues.
After talking to Peony, you’ll need to interact with a “Wooden Crown” which is located on Peony’s desk. Once you interact with it, Victor will grab it and place it in his bag. You’re supposed to place that crown on a wooden statue of Calyrex and his horse which can be found just outside.
As soon as you place the crown where it should always have been, Calyrex will appear from the woods for a battle. He’s in a relatively weak state at this moment, so you’ll be able to defeat him pretty easily and quickly. Also, remember he’s not catchable yet so you’ll simply just have to defeat him.
After you defeat the Calyrex, he’ll talk a bit about how the humans have forgotten him as he’s the “King of Bountiful Harvests”. After that, you’ll need to talk to all the villagers about Calyrex to see if they remember him. Once you’ve talked to enough people, you’ll get a pop-up saying that you did so.
After that, you will have to go back to Calyrex and he’ll tell you about his horse which you’ll have to reunite with the Calyrex in order to finally catch him.
After talking to the Calyrex, go to the Mayor and talk to him. He’s present in the giant’s bed area.
After talking to him, head on back over to his house, and there you’ll be able to learn a great deal about Calyrex, his horse, what type of food the horse eats, etc. Learning or examining all of this information isn’t necessary if you’re following our guide.
After that, you’ll need to go back to the Calyrex and there’ll be some more story-filler cut scenes. During this conversation, the Calyrex will tell you to find his horse and feed him.
The only thing that grows in the area is carrots, so you’ll have to plant some Carrot Seeds. You can get Carrot Seeds from an old man standing beside the crops. When you talk to him, he’ll offer you some Carrot Seeds for 8 pieces of Dynite Ore.
Once more, talk to Calyrex. He’ll tell you to plant the seeds at one of the two fields available. The location you choose to plant the seeds is important because you’ll get two different types of carrots from these locations and two different types of horses eventually. For more information on where to plant the Carrot Seeds and how it affects the outcome, check out this detailed guide.
After you plant the seeds, Calyrex will appear and grow carrots using his power. After the carrots grow, pull them out and travel back to Freezington. There, you’ll confront Calyrex’s horse, which you’ll need to defeat to progress further in the quest. After you defeat the horse, it’ll drop a tuft of “Mane Hair” which you’ll need to pick up.
Talk to Calyrex again. He’ll give you a “Radiant Petal” which you’ll need for later in order to make the “Reigns of Unity”. Calyrex needs these reigns to get hold of his horse again.
Head over to the Mayor’s house and talk to him. After a series of cut-scenes which also involve Peony, you’ll obtain a “set of Reigns of Unity”.
After you get the reigns, it’s almost done. Talk to Calyrex outside to get your final objective. To complete this objective, you’ll need to travel to “Crown Shrine”. To get there, you need to go through Giant’s bed and then head north to Snowslide Slope. Keep going and you’ll see a tunnel. After crossing that tunnel just keep going upwards and eventually you’ll get to the shrine.
After entering the shrine, you’ll notice a holder on the left, place a carrot there to summon the horse. Doing so will reunite the horse with Calyrex. Once he is reunited with his horse, he gains back his full power and becomes a pretty nasty one to defeat.
Now finally, after reuniting, you can defeat and capture this legendary Pokémon.
That’s how you can get your hands on Calyrex in The Crown Tundra DLC. For more help on the game, be sure to check out our detailed Pokémon Sword and Shield wiki guides.
