Honkai: Star Rail is not the most complicated game out there. And while it does have its fair share of similarities with Genshin Impact (also from the same developer) there are some tips and strategies that you can use for smooth progression. The entire gameplay loop is very simple: you complete missions, increase your Trailblaze Level, pull the characters you like the most, and repeat. Also, unlike Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail is not open-world. In this guide, we have shared some tips and strategies that will help you have an easier time in Honkai: Star Rail.

Honkai: Star Rail Tips and Tricks

Below, we have shared some tips that will ensure that you have a smooth progression in Honkai: Star Rail.

Complete Daily Training

When starting out, you should try to complete your Daily Training as frequently as possible. This is because completing Daily Training rewards you with XP to increase your Trailblaze Level. This will let you increase your Equilibrium, unlock new missions, and access other activities. Aside from this, Daily Training will also reward you with Stellar Jade which is always welcome.

Increase Trailblaze Level

Expanding on the previous point, you need to try and increase your Trailblaze Level whenever you can. And while there is no need to do this if you do not want to rush, it does have a few advantages. In case you do not know, Trailblaze Level is essentially your Account Level which you can increase to unlock new missions. One more thing that goes hand-in-hand with your Trailblaze Level is Equilibrium which, in Genshin Impact terms, is World Level. Equilibrium increases on its own at different Trailblaze Levels i.e., 20, 40, 50, 60, and 65.

Farm Materials

Similar to Expeditions in Genshin Impact, you can send different characters on Assignments to collect resources. The entire process is automated and all that you will need to do is to choose the duration for which you wish the characters to stay on an Assignment i.e., 4, 8, 12, or even 20 hours. Needless to say but the more time a character spends on an Assignment, the more resources they will receive.

Be Wise with Stellar Jade

Stellar Jade is one of the most valuable resources in Honkai: Star Rail and also the hardest one to farm. It is equivalent to Primogems in Genshin Impact which lets you pull your favorite characters. Aside from characters who are available from the get-go, there are 2 types of characters you will need to pull. These characters are categorized into Limited Banners and Standard Banners.

Limited Banners are on a rotation which makes some characters appear temporarily before they are rotated out. Standard Banners, however, are fixed. And while you can exchange your Stellar Jade for Standard Tickets, you are free to do so but it is not recommended. This is because Standard Tickets are far easier to farm compared to Stellar Jade.

Understand Character Paths

This is equivalent to classes in other popular RPGs. Characters in Honkai: Star Rail are categorized into 7 different Character Paths, each one with its unique abilities, role, and playstyle. These are:

  • Abundance: Supports.
  • Destruction: Frontline DPS characters.
  • Erudition: High AoE characters.
  • Harmony: Provides ATK-boosting buffs.
  • Nihility: Applies debuffs onto enemies.
  • Preservation: Defense-boosting characters.
  • Hunt: High single-target damage.

Use Techniques

Techniques are abilities that you can use before a battle starts. Some of these Techniques are plain damage abilities but others provide some useful bonuses. For example, Dan Heng increases ATK, Trailblazer restores 15% HP of the entire team, Bailu applies an Invigoration effect, etc. We recommend playing around with these Techniques to see if you like something.
